Ward, Bullock power Co-Lin women over Holmes

GOODMAN – Shrica Ward and Reisha Bullock pumped in 13 pointsapiece Thursday night to direct the Co-Lin Lady Wolves to a 61-52win over the Holmes Lady Bulldogs in basketball action.

>In the men’s game, the Bulldogs handed the Wolves an 85-69defeat.

Co-Lin hosts Mississippi Delta Monday night for two games. Thewomen begin play at 6 p.m. followed by the men.

Co-Lin 61, Holmes 52

The Co-Lin women (2-0) led Holmes 26-18 at the half.

“Both teams struggled in the first half,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young. We were playing without any effort early in thegame and making too many mental mistakes.”

In the first half, Co-Lin shot 9/22 for 40.9 percent from thefloor and 8/17 for 47 percent from free throw range.

“In the second half, we were able to get a 12-point lead butthey cut it to 3,” stated Young. “The next trip down the floor,Alisha Mason hit a 3-pointer that put us ahead 6 and they never gotcloser than 6 points.”

Yoshunda Williams led the Wolves off the backboards with 8rebounds. TeAirra Wilbert made 4 steals.

For the Bulldogs, Kimberly Anderson led with 17 points. AshleyBrown netted 12 points followed by Dominique Harris with 10 pointsand 8 rebounds.

“It was a good win for our first game on the road against a teamthat played hard and physical,” added Young.

Holmes 85, Co-Lin 69

“Defensively, Holmes was extremely physical which took uscompletely out of our offense,” said Co-Lin men’s coach DennisSims. “The Wolves physically were beaten up and they wore down asthe game went on.”

Holmes led Co-Lin 43-27 in the first half.

Pre-season All-American Greg Truvillion led the Wolves (0-2)with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Corey London fired in 13 points.Netting 12 points was Lawanski Newsome with 12 points.

The Bulldogs got 23 points from Brandon Brown. Johnathan Boydscored 17 points followed by Jesse Banks with 11.
