Colonels shut out Prairie View

BASTROP, La. — The defending AA state football champ CopiahAcademy Colonels shut out the Prairie View Academy Spartans 28-0Friday night in the opening round of the MPSA state playoffs.

Copiah improved to 11-1 with the win and travels to CentrevilleAcademy Friday night in the second round. Centreville Academy(10-2) blanked Central Private 18-0 last Friday.

Prairie View fell to 9-3 with the loss.

“It was one of our best football games,” said Copiah first-yearhead coach Scotty Cline. “We played real well. We played against agood Prairie View team.”

In the second quarter, Colonel wide receiver Hunter Greer caught a12-yard pass from quarterback Daniel Sims for the six points.Richard Henley kicked his first of 4 extra points to give Copiah a7-0 lead.

Before end of the first half, Copiah running back Brandon Greerscored on a 2-yard run to push the lead to 14-0.

Third-quarter action saw Brandon Greer explode for a 17-yardtouchdown as the Colonels took a 21-0 victory.

In the fourth quarter, Alex Guess caught a 13-yard pass from Simsfor the TD and a 29-0 lead.
