MEADVILLE — Paced by two clutch three-pointers from BrettRushing in the fourth quarter, the West Lincoln Bears produced anupset of the Franklin County Bulldogs Tuesday night in Bulldogarena, winning 42-39. In the girls game, FC overwhelmed the LadyBears 63-19.

The Bears (2-0), used 8 of Rushing’s game-high13 points in the final frame to seize control of a contest filledwith turnovers and missed shots. The Bears trailed Franklin County(1-2) by one at intermission 14-13.

“Defensively I thought we played a good game,” said West Lincolncoach Lane Young. “Basically in the second half we shot the ballbetter. We made some big buckets in the fourth.”

Jason Hunt, Franklin County’s senior forward, reeled off sixstraight points in the final 1:08 to keep FC within strikingdistance of the Bears. Several missed opportunities at a game-tyingtrey down the stretch failed for the Bulldogs, who are coached byChris Jordan.

“We held on at the end,” added Young.

West Lincoln got eight points apiece from Jeremy Byrd and JeremieRichardson. Jamey Byrd added six points.

For Franklin County, Hunt had a game high 16 points and 11rebounds. Phillip Shell added nine points and Alvie Pernellsix.

The Lady Bulldogs (3-1), coached by Charles Moore,exploded from the start, taking a 22-8 first quarter lead off thehot hand of Paige Webster. FCHS led 39-9 at the half.

In the second half, Franklin County continued its dominance, as FCpost players Cee Cee Davis and Shereka Hunt worked the paint foreasy baskets.

Webster led the Lady Dawgs with 19 points, eight boards, fourassists, and two steals. Davis finished with eight points, and Huntsix.

For the Lady Bears (1-1), Hannah Knouse led West Lincoln with 7points. Kristen Hall and Kayla Moak had four points each.

West Lincoln resumes play Thursday night at home against Loyd Star.Franklin County resumes play tonight in the Natchez Tournament.
