CENTREVILLE — The Copiah Academy Cougars visit the CentrevilleAcademy Tigers Friday night in the second round of the MPSA statefootball AA playoffs. The game begins at 7 p.m.

In other AA playoff games, Marshall meets Kirk, Indianola facesWinston in the North and Trinity Episcopal squares off against OakForest, La., in the South semifinals.

Copiah (11-1) is the defending AA state football champ. TheColonels, under the direction of first-year head coach ScottyCline, shut out Prairie View, La., 28-0 last week to advance to thesecond round.

Centreville (10-2) blanked Central Private, La. 18-0 last Friday.The Tigers are coached by Bill Hurst.

“Centreville is huge,” said Cline. ‘They are big and fast; the bestteam we have seen this year. They are scary. Both running backs aregreat. They are e running team. The like to run over you.

“They have a hall of fame coach in Bill Hurst,” continued Cline.”All the ingredients are there for a great football team. It’lltake everything we have to stay on the field with these guys.”

in the win over Prairie View, Colonel senior quarterback DanielSims completed 8 out of 20 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown.Brandon Greer rushed 17 times for 134 yards and 2 TDs. Ben Boonecarried 10 carries 33 yards and 1 TD. Richard Henley kicked 4 extrapoints.

Leading the Colonel receivers was Brandon Greer with 2 receptionsfor 63 yards. Alex Guess had 1 catch for a12-yard touchdown.

Defensively, Bryce Guess led Copiah with 7 tackles (3 for losses)and 2 sacks. Alex Guess also had 7 tackles and a forced fumble.Hunter Greer returned a pass interception for 47 yards.

The Copiah starting offense features Sims at quarterback, Boone attailback and B. Greer at fullback. The offensive line includesMatthew Wright at left tackle, Bryce Sharp at left guard, Rob Pyronat center, Gary Strong at right guard and Dustin Merchant at righttackle. Working at tight end are A. Guess and B. Guess. Greer andTimothy Hall are at wide receiver.
