Perry Brandt Hood

Services for Perry Brandt Hood, of Hazlehurst, are 2 p.m.Sunday, Dec. 16, at First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst with burialin Hazlehurst Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at thefuneral home.

Mr. Hood, 18, died Dec. 13, 2007, in Morton.

He graduated in 2007 from Wesson High School, where he excelledin basketball and was chosen best offensive player his junioryear.

After his senior year season, Hood was awarded Best OffensivePlayer, Most Valuable Player, 2006 Wesson Invitational MostValuable Player, First Team All-District Region 6-2A, and a veryspecial award, Region 6-2A Player of the Year, that was awarded tohim unanimously by his opposing coaches. He was also recognized asa member of the All-Area Dream Team in boys’ basketball by TheDAILY LEADER.

He also excelled in high school baseball. Hood received the TeamLeadership Award his junior year and the team’s Most DedicatedPlayer award his senior year. Also during his senior year, he waselected Most Handsome for Wesson High School.

Upon graduation from Wesson High, Hood realized one of hislifetime dreams and accepted a full scholarship to play collegebasketball at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he had justcompleted his first semester.

He was a natural leader and led by example. One of his favoritequotes was, “Why wouldn’t I want the last shot when I know thatI’ve already made it?”

Preceding him in death were his uncle, Rodney Norman; and hisbest friend, Preston Berry.

Survivors are his parents, Perry and Linda Hood, of Hazlehurst;his brother, Brandon Hood, of Hazlehurst; his sister, Chelsey Hood,of Hazlehurst; his girlfriend, Kelli Herrington, of Brookhaven; hispaternal grandparents, Carroll and Elizabeth Hood, of Hazlehurst;and his maternal grandparents, Dudley and June Norman, ofHazlehurst.

He also leaves behind many other family members, friends,coaches, teammates, and others that truly looked up to him andloved him. He will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hazlehurst UnitedMethodist Church Building Fund.

Tommy G. Watts

Services for Tommy G. Watts, of Brookhaven, were 10 a.m.Saturday, Dec. 15, at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive.Burial was at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Watts, 69, died Dec. 13, 2007, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born on Oct. 14, 1938, to Altemon Watts and NellieCase Watts.

He was a retired electrician and retired from Charlie Nelms Fordas a car salesman.

He was a member of Brookway Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Will RoyWatts and a sister, Mildred Acy.

Survivors are his wife Evelyn Williamson, of Brookhaven; hissons, Tony Watts, of Brookhaven, and Greg Watts, of Meadville; hisdaughter, Angie Watson, of Eddiceton; his brothers, Altemon WattsJr., of Pearl, and Billy Watts, of Houston, Texas; hissister-in-law, Verbalee Watts, of Brookhaven; seven grandchildren;and two great-grandchildren.

Era Bell Carney Jackson

Services for Era Bell Carney Jackson, of Jayess, are 1 p.m.Sunday, Dec. 16, at Powell’s Grove Pentecostal Church in Jayesswith burial in the church cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is incharge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jackson, 90, died Dec. 13, 2007, at Lawrence CountyHospital. She was born on Dec. 29, 1916, to Homer Carney and CoreneCreel Carney.

She was a retired factory worker with Croft and a homemaker. Shewas a member of Powell’s Grove Pentecostal Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alva EarlJackson; her sons, Charles Matthew Armstrong, Burlon C. Armstrong,and Jerry Pat Armstrong; her daughter, Henry Elizabeth Armstrong;two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors are her daughter, Linda Alexander and husbandRandolph; her daughter-in-laws, Carolyn Armstrong, of Foxworth, andSue Armstrong, of Monticello; her brother, Williard (Bill) Carneyand wife Izetta, of Pascagoula; her sisters, Ethel Roberts, ofBrookhaven, Adele Nichoals, of Columbia, Willie Mae Cothern, andBillie J. Reid and husband Henry, all of Jayess; 12 grandchildren;33 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and manynieces and nephews.

Mary Alice Stamps

Services for Mary Alice Stamps, of Silver Creek, are 2 p.m.Sunday, Dec. 16, at Hepzibah Baptist Church. Saulters-Moore FuneralHome in Prentiss is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stamps, 79, died Dec. 14, 2007, at Lawrence CountyHospital.

She was retired from Kellwood Manufacturing Company, where shewas a seamstress. She was a member of Hepzibah Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Clint and KatieHedgepeth; her husband, James G. Stamps; her son, James RobbieStamps; and her grandson, Joe Harvey.

Survivors are her sons, Ken Stamps and wife Pam, of Wesson, andKevin Stamps, of Silver Creek; her daughter, Glinda Harvey, ofSilver Creek; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and fourgreat-great-grandchildren.
