BC divides with Bears

BOGUE CHITTO — Shelby Tobias sank a short jumper with 2.6seconds left to play Monday night, lifting Bogue Chitto’s Lady’Cats to a thrilling 59-57 comeback win over the West Lincoln LadyBears in R. L. “Bob”Calhoun Gymnasium. The Lady ‘Cats got 17 pointsfrom guard Darcy Miller who had hit 2 free throws to tie the gameat 57-all.

In the varsity boys game, Aaron Collins pumped in 29 points andgrabbed 7 rebounds in leading the Bears to a 75-58 win over theBobcats.

The Lady ‘Cats (6-5, 3-0) avenged a previousloss at West Lincoln with last night’s win. They got 14 points, 8rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists from junior center Kelli Howard.Adrienne Hall chipped in 10 points 8 rebounds and 4 steals.Freshman guard Josie Porter dished out 6 assists.

“I’m proud of my girls and their effort,” said Bogue Chittogirls coach Christi Terrell “We were able to make free throws atthe end of the game to keep it close.

“West Lincoln shoots the ball well from the perimeter whichforces us to play man-to-man,” added Terrell. “We are slacking ondefense.”

The Lady Bears (7-6, 1-1) were directed by guard TatiannaMarshall’s game-high 23 points. She hit 5 treys and grabbed 4rebounds.

Keri Easley chipped in 10 points and 3 rebounds, plus 3 assists.Senior center Talashia Fells ( 5 points, 10 rebounds) was in earlyfoul trouble and fouled out midway through the fourth quarter.

“We blew it at the end,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “Wethrew the ball away a lot. Bogue Chitto made the plays to win. Wedidn’t deserve to win.”

The Bears (9-4, 2-0) held a 37-31 halftime leadover the Bobcats. They got 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals fromJeremy Byrd. Dave Barnett added 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assistsand 2 steals. Jamie Byrd had 10 points and 5 rebounds.

West Lincoln made 24 of 39 free throws and BC had 3 startersfoul out as the Bobcats committed 28 fouls.

“We have got to get better,” said Coach Young. “We have beeninconsistent in the fourth quarter the last couple of games. It wasa sloppy game on both sides.”

The Bobcats (2-8, 1-3) were led by Justin London’s 16 points.Colby Johnson added 10 points and 6 rebounds. Brian Robinson had 10points and 6 rebounds before fouling out. O.J. Turner grabbed 5boards.

BC coach Andrew Smithie was unavailable for comment on thegame.

Junior High Results

In the junior high girls game, Bogue Chitto beat West Lincoln31-27, led by Chancie Hall’s 9 points. Aliyah Durr, Rheagan Welchand Adrienne Wallace each had 6 points.

West Lincoln got 8 points fro Carlie Acy and 6 from MarisaPruski.

In the boys game, the Bears edged BC 32-31, led by CardellPorter’s 10 points. Lucas Burris had 9 points and Hunter Fauver7.

The Bobcats got a game-high 21 points from Michael Harris.Germie Martin had 6 points.
