Ole Brook sweeps South Pike

Brookhaven swept a pair of non-division games from South PikeFriday night in Sinclair Gym. The Lady Panthers used a 25-13 fourthquarter to defeat the Lady Eagles 66-57. The Panthers used a 37-25second half spurt to pin a 69-55 loss on the Eagles.

Brookhaven 66, South Pike 57

Neither team shot well in the opening period. Both Brookhaven(29 percent) and South Pike (33 percent) were ice cold, but theLady Eagles would take a 13-12 cushion into the second stanza.

Shooting became a concentrated factor in the second quarter, asBrookhaven would carry a 28-25 lead into the halftime lockerroom.

South Pike (9-6) followed the lead of reserve forward KampatriceSlocum, who paced the Lady Eagles with 12 points off the bench.Along with guard Ivielle Stewart’s two 3-point baskets, head coachMarcus Flippin’s team took a 44-41 lead into the final 8minutes.

The Lady Panthers (12-1), ranked seventh in the latest statewidepolls, went on a convincing 25-13 fourth period run to get thewin.

For the Lady Eagles, Stewart and Tekeya Felder scored 11 pointsapiece. Slocum had 4 steals, with Stewart dishing out 3 assists.Brittany Martin was tops off the backboards with 5 rebounds.

Brookhaven was led by LSU signee Swayze Black’s game-high 21points, along with 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. AshleyGayten followed with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. WhitleyShannon pumped in 12 points and had 2 assists. Ole Miss signeeNikki Byrd had 15 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and had 2steals.

Brookhaven 69, South Pike 55

The Eagles (4-9) appeared to be on the verge of blowing OleBrook out early. South Pike held an early 5-point advantage, beforethe Panthers came to life.

Brookhaven (5-9) rallied behind a balanced scoring attack tocarry an 18-15 lead into the second quarter. Head Coach RonaldHines saw his ballclub shoot the basketball with consistency (50percent) in the first half and that registered a 32-30 lead athalftime.

South Pike, coached by Joe Taylor, couldn’t shoot with anyconsistency (30 percent) throughout the game. The Eagles’ inabilityto convert high percentage shots and careless turnovers aided theircause in defeat.

The Eagles got a team-high 13 points and 5 steals from guardLeslie Jones.

Lending support for Ole Brook was Charles Rancifer with agame-high 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals. Sophomore forwardMarcus McGee tallied 13 points and 2 steals.
