Senior guard Betsy Lynch produced n offensive show Saturdaynight, leading the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars to a 55-40victory over McComb Parklane Academy in the championship finals ofBA’s Holiday Classic. Lynch scored a game-high 25 points.

In the boys title game, Bowling Green beat Riverdale 50-40Saturday night, handing the Rebels their first setback.

Brookhaven Academy’s boys defeated Copiah Academy 71-46 in thethird place game, led by senior Corey Dickerson’s 25 points. In athird place girls game, Copiah dumped Bowling Green 40-33.

The Lady Cougars (15-2) got 7 rebounds fromguard Nicole Smith. Lynch had 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.Kelli Snider pumped in 13 points

Coach Barry Gray watched his Lady Cougars take a 26-21 halftimelead. They outscored Parklane 29-19 the second half.

Lindsay Clark led the Lady Pioneers with 10 points.

Brookhaven 71, Copiah 46

Josh Winborne and Jamison Powell tossed in 15 points apiece insupport of Dickerson.

The Cougars (10-4) got 10 rebounds apiece from Winborne andPowell. Dickerson had 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Blaine Roberts made5 assists.

BA coach Dale Watts said he was pleased with his team’sperformance. “After a loss like we had Friday nght, it would havebeen easy for us to lay down but we stepped up and played a goodgame.

“We had some seniors step up and we did a better jobteam-wise.”

Watts saw his Cougars leading 36-20 at halftime.

Copiah got 12 points each from Hunter Greer, Clay Price andScotty Reece.

Bowling Green 50, Riverdale 40

A 23-point performance by Derek Varnado led the Buccaneers tovictory. Tranet Graebert had 11 points.

Riverdale (16-1) was led by Eric Ebarb’s 16 points. Jay Perkinshad 9 points.

Copiah 40, Bowling Green 33

In a girls consolidation, game Madelon Cline’s 15 points pacedCopiah’s victory. Ashley Baham added 11 points.

Bowling Green was led by center Gabby Givens who scored 15points.
