Services for Dykes Lee James, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Monday,Jan. 7, at First Baptist Church in Brookhaven with burial in NewellCemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home, Natchez Drive location, is incharge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 4 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home andMonday from 10 until 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.

Mr. James, 79, died Jan. 4, 2008, at his residence. He was bornin Lincoln County on Jan. 30, 1928, to J. H. James and ParaleeNewell James.

He was a life long resident of the Old Red Star community andgraduated from Loyd Star High School. He served as a board memberfor Dairymen Incorporated and the Lincoln Rural Water Association.He was also on the board of the Southwest Electric PowerAssociation for 34 years.

His many years of faithful service to his church and communitywere recognized when he and his wife were honored as Unsung Heroesin The DAILY LEADER in 1994. He was a member of First BaptistChurch where he served as a deacon, a member of the sanctuarychoir, and the Cecil Rhodes Sunday school class.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, J. H.James Jr. and Billie Earl James; and a great-grandson, JoshuaCooper Smith.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Helen Watts James, ofBrookhaven; his daughters, Linda Kay Smith and husband Sammy, ofBrookhaven, Sondra James, of Pearl, and Patsy Parker and husbandGeorge, of Brookhaven; his grandchildren, Sonya Anders and husbandDel, Shane Smith and wife Robyn, Ryan Parker and wife Amy, andOliva Watts and husband Josh; his great-grandchildren, Lane, Molly,and Melinda Anders, and Leigh-Taylor and Jon Tyler Smith; hisbrother, Glynn Juanita James; and numerous nieces, nephews, andfriends.
