Tigers’ offense, defense too much for Wolves

WESSON – In their first encounter at Booneville, the NortheastTigers clipped the Co-Lin Wolves by four points, 69-65. Thursdaynight at Mullen Gymnasium, Co-Lin head mens coach Dennis Sims hopedthe home court advantage would help.
It didn’t.
Last night, Northeast controlled the game from the start to thefinish and handed Co-Lin a tough 78-55 loss in the host’s firstgame back from the holidays.
Northeast improved to 7-5 and Co-Lin fell to 6-4.
Co-Lin entertains Pearl River Monday for its first SouthDivision games of the season. The women kick off the night at 6p.m., followed by the men.
The Tigers, coached by David Robins, started off the first halfwith 10-0 run on the Wolves. Co-Lin’s Trent Hutchin broke thescoreless spell with a field goal at the 17-10 mark.
Co-Lin cut the deficit to three points, 30-37, with 2:05remaining in the first half on a putback by Lawanski Newsome. TheWolves would come no closer in the first half with the Tigerstaking an 11-point, 39-28, lead in at the half.
“Northeast played hard, we didn’t,” said Sims following thegame. “Our first half wasn’t good and we needed a better secondhalf. And that wasn’t good.”
In the second half, Northeast outscored Co-Lin 39-27 to cruiseto the win.
“We laid down and got whipped,” stated Sims. “We did nothingoffensively tonight.”
Directing the Wolves with 15 points and 4 rebounds was sophomoreforward Greg Truvillion. Hutchin fired in 11 points, including 3treys. Following with 10 points and 5 rebounds was Newsome.
Northeast was led by sophomore forward Ken Moore with 19 pointsand 3 rebounds. William Burnett nailed 16 points, pulled down 6rebounds and had 4 assists. Travis Lee pumped in 13 points and made4 assists. Lee and Moore are graduates of Tallahassee’s Godby HighSchool.
