Co-Lin’s defense stops Southwest

SUMMIT — The Co-Lin Wolves played stingy defense and made thetough plays when they needed Thursday night to hand the SouthwestBears a 69-65 South Division loss in Horace C. HolmesGymnasium.

With the win, Co-Lin improved to 2-0 in the South and 8-4 on theseason. Southwest fell to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the division.

The Wolves and Lady Wolves visit Decatur Monday night to facethe East Central Warriors for a pair of key division games.

At the half, Co-Lin held a 35-28 lead over Southwest. On thenight, the Wolves were 14 of 19 from the free throw line. The Bearsmade 13 of 24.

“We are happy to to get the win,” said Co-Lin mens coach DennisSims. “My guys defended well. We were able to make free throws atthe end. We were able to control the ball.

“(Julius) Blanks defended Southwest’s (Aubrey) Coleman real welland caused him to take some bad shots,’ said Co-Lin coach DennisSims. “But the main key was we defended and made plays at the endand made crucial free throws.”

Directing the Wolves with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assistswas sophomore forward Greg Truvillion. Trent Hutchin fired in 16points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Following was Lawanski Newsome with10 points and 6 rebounds.

“Co-Lin played really hard, both offensive and defensively,”said Southwest coach Bill Wallace. “We made a run at the end. Butwe missed a lot of opportunities. It was tough to win with thatmany missed opportunities.”

The Bears got a game-high 27 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 7assists from Coleman. Terencio Powell netted 14 points and pulleddown 8 rebounds.
