Lady Wolves stop Lady Bulldogs

WESSON – For the first 27 minutes of last night’s 40-minutegame, the host Co-Lin Lady Wolves struggled with the Hinds LadyBulldogs. With 13:32 left to play, Co-Lin sophomore forward KristinEllis nailed a field goal to put the Lady Wolves up 36-34 and theLady Bulldogs never got back in the game.

Co-Lin went on a 30-19 scoring run in the remainder of the gameto secure a huge 66-53 South Division win over Hinds.

The Lady Wolves improve to 3-3 in the division and 12-4 on theseason. The Lady Bulldogs remain winless in the South with an 0-6worksheet and are 6-10 overall.

Co-Lin entertains South Division foe Jones County Monday nightfor a doubleheader. The women begin play at 6 p.m., followed by themen.

“Hinds played us real hard in the first half,” said Co-Linwomen’s coach Gwyn Young. “Hinds has a real good group.”

In the first half, Co-Lin and Hinds exchanged leads severaltimes as the Lady Wolves battled the Lady Bulldogs’ press to stayone point behind, 29-28, at the half.

“In the second half, our defense picked it up,” added Young. “Webroke their press. Our subs came in and did a real good job. We’restill not good enough yet.”

With 12:01 left in the second half, Hinds sophomore guard KaylaPalmer nailed a free throw to cut the Co-Lin lead to 36-35. Co-Linsub Yashunda Williams responded with a free throw followed byReisha Bullock with a layup and TeAirra Wilbert with a steal for aquick bucket to push the Lady Wolves a head 41-35 with 10:30remaining in the game.

With 5:38 left to play, Co-Lin built its lead to 20 points,59-39, following a pair of free throws from freshman forward ShricaWard.

Powering the Lady Wolves with 15 points, 4 steals and 3 assistswas Bullock. Alisha Mason fired in 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds andblocked a shot. Ellis collected 7 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blockedshots. S halenia Wilcher grabbed 5 rebounds.

For Coach Micherylin Smith’s Lady Bulldogs, Kayla Palmer andCandace Johnson led with 16 points apiece. Tateshia Page led offthe backboards with 6 rebounds.
