Pearl River sweeps Co-Lin

POPLARVILLE — The Pearl River Lady Wildcats outscored theCo-Lin Lady Wolves 10-5 in overtime Thursday night to keep a key67-62 South Division win. At the end of regulation, both teams weretied at 57-all.

In the men’s game, Co-Lin was handed its first South Divisionloss, falling to Pearl River 78-66.

Co-Lin entertains South Division foe Southwest Monday for adoubleheader. The women begin play at 6 p.m. followed by themen.

Pearl River 67, Co-Lin 61 (OT)

With the loss, the Lady Wolves fall to 4-4 in the division and13-5 on the season. At Mullen Gymnasium on Jan. 7, Co-Lin knockedoff Pearl River 60-49.

“We didn’t execute on offense as well as we needed to win,” saidCo-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “We had too many missed shots andtoo many turnovers. Shooting 29 percent from the field is not goodenough to win a game in the MACJC league.”

At halftime, Pearl River led Co-Lin 36-29.

Powering the Lady Wolves with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 3steals was 5-10 sophomore forward Alisha Mason. Shalenia Wilcherfinished with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Lady Wildcats got 18 points apiece from Olivia Magee andLaTerrica Booth. Booth also led off the backboards with 14 reboundsfollowed by Magee with 9. Sherrion Thomas netted 14 points.

“We need to start shooting the ball better if we are going tohave a chance to win,” added Young. “Hopefully, if we continue towork hard, we will be able to see better results.”

Pearl River 78, Co-Lin 66

With the first division loss, Co-Lin is 7-1 and now 13-5overall. Earlier in the year, the Wolves had beaten the Wildcats54-48.

“We just didn’t defend, especially in the paint,” said Co-Linmen’s coach Dennis Sims. “Our defense was a step slow and out ofposition.”

The Wildcats led the Wolves 39-33 at halftime.

For Co-Lin, freshman guard Trent Hutchin directed the visitorswith a game-high 26 points. Greg Truvillion fired in 16 points andmade 3 steals. Julius Blanks and Corey London led off the backboardwith 5 rebounds apiece.

Pearl River was led by LeBaron Weathers with 21 points and 7rebounds. Scoring 11 points was Chazz Hawkins. Finishing with 10points each were Donta Smith and Jeremy Stewart.
