Co-Lin men clinch South crown

UTICA — Greg Truvillion poured in 25 points and the Co-Lin menturned back the Hinds Community College Bulldogs 60-55 Monday nightin a South Division showdown. Trent Hutchin added 14 points as theWolves secured first place in the South Division race and No. 1seeding in next week’s state tournament at Itawamba CommunityCollege in Fulton.

In the women’s game, Co-Lin beat Hinds 70-65, paced by YashundaWilliams with 16 points and Resha Bullock with 15.,

Co-Lin concludes regular season play Thursday night at JonesCounty Junior College in Ellisville.

The Wolves (17-6, 11-2) overcame 20 turnoversto beat Hinds. Fourteen turnovers were in the first half.

“Sophomore Jemario Martin came off the bench to play a solidgame for us on both ends of the floor,” said Co-Lin men’s coachDennis Sims. Martin had 7 points.

Hinds got 19 points from Courtney Nelson.

The Lady Wolves (17-6, 8-5)

overcame a sluggish offensive performanceby outrebounding Hinds 38-29. They shot 36 percent from thefield.

“Yashunda Williams had her best game of the year,” said Co-Linwomen’s coach Gwyn Young. The 6-foot freshman finished with 16points and 4 rebounds.

“Our bench scored 28 points,” Young noted. “Hinds did a good jobon on defense and taking the ball to the goal. Defensively, we letthem have too many easy shots.”

Hinds got 18 points from Candace Johnson.
