Co-Lin takes pair from East Mississippi

SCOOBA — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept a softball doubleheaderfrom the East Mississippi Lady Lions Thursday afternoon.

Co-Lin won the opener 3-1 and the final 12-7.

The Lady Wolves, coached by Allen Kent, improved to 15-4 on theseason and will play today in Hattiesburg in the Pearl RiverTournament.

Co-Lin 3, East Miss. 1

The winning pitcher was sophomore Becca Bailey (3-1) with 12strikeouts, no walks and 6 hits allowed. Losing hurler StephanyPounders allowed just 4 hits.

“We took advantage of our opportunities,” said Kent. “Poundersreally threw a great game. They out hit us 6-4 but we made thingshappen. Bailey had a great game today. She won the pitcher’s duel.The 12 strikeouts were huge.”

Missy Paulina led Co-Lin with a double. Adding support with asingle were Becca Bailey,

Meleah Brown and Brittany Watts.

In the second game, Kayla Crochet led the Lady Wolves at theplate with two home runs, a double and a single for 5 RBI and 3runs scored.. Candance Avants and Boone doubled. Following with 2hits each were Ashley Sykes and Rebecca Rousseau.

“It was an ugly, defensive effort, committing 7 errors,” saidKent. “I was very disappointed of the way we turned routine playsinto errors. We must improve in that area.”

Bringing home the win on the mound was Rousseau (3-0) with 5strikeouts, no walks and 11 hits allowed in 5 1/3 innings. Brownworked the final 1 2/3 innings with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.

“Rousseau didn’t have her best outing,” added Kent.
