Baseball clinic aids program registration

Brookhaven Recreation Department officials say a Spring Breakbaseball camp held last week was a great success and helpedregistration in Dr. A.L. Lott Baseball Program “quite a bit.”
Recreation Department Director Terry Reid said all baseball,softball and T-ball deadlines will be extended until Monday, March24, but that the Lott League will definitely have a season thisyear.
“We have 81 signed up at Lott,” he said. “We just need a fewmore kids to enhance the program.”
Reid said the camp drew 81 children, all of whom signed up toplay baseball or T-ball through the Dr. A.L. Lott program. He saidthat participation was in a large part due to great volunteersupport.
“The camp was extremely successful,” he said. “It wouldn’t havebeen possible without our volunteers and our commissioners, RandyBelcher and Kenneth Smith.”
He also thanked Bank of Brookhaven for providing therefreshments for camp attendees.
Reid said the Hansel King program deadlines for softball,baseball and T-ball have been extended as well, and that anyoneinterested in putting in an application for any of BRD’s springprograms may come in any time this week. He said the office will beclosed on Friday, but open all day Monday.
Reid said the coaches for the Lott program will meet from 5-7p.m. Monday, and all the children signed up are invited to attendthe meeting.
“The coaches can look at the kids, and vice-versa, then thedraft will be Tuesday,” he said.
The Lott draft will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25.Hansel King leagues will draft on Thursday, March 27, at 6:30p.m.
Reid said every coach will be notified of draft times, whichcould be subject to change.
