DECATUR – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves split a softball doubleheaderThursday with the East Central Lady Warriors.

Co-Lin won the opener 4-2 but fell to East Central 6-5 in thefinale.

The Lady Wolves, coached by Allen Kent, entertain South Divisionrival Pearl River Wednesday for a twinbill. The first game beginsat 1 p.m.

Co-Lin 4, East Central 2

Meleah Brown (4-1) went the distance in hurling a 5-hitter.Brown struck out 2 batters, walked 2 and allowed 1 earned run.

“Meleah threw a good game against a good-hitting East Centralsquad,” said Kent. “She didn’t have many strikeouts today but ourdefense did OK behind her.”

Co-Lin scored in the first inning as Devon Welch reached on anerror. Rebecca Rousseau reached on an infield hit. Kayla Crochetsingled in Welch. Crochet scored when Brown reach base on anerror.

East Central scored in the bottom of the first to cut the leadto 2-1.

In the fourth, Alex Foster singled and Missy Paulina sacrificedto send her to second. Welch hit an RBI single with 2 points andplated Foster.

The Lady Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the fourth tocut the deficit to 3-2.

IN the seventh inning, Becca Boone ripped a 2-out single toscore Rousseau who singled earlier.

At the plate, Welch and Rousseau led with 2 hits apiece. ChelseyMiler singled.

The Lady Wolves stranded 7 runners.

East Central 6, Co-Lin 5

In the second game, Co-Lin took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.Welch reached first on an error. After a fielder’s choice, Welchscored on an overthrow.

East Central tied the game in the bottom of the second.

Following a scoreless third inning, the Lady Wolves scored 4runs in the top of the fourth for a 5-1 lead. Ashley Sykes reachedbase on a fielder’s choice. Boone singled. Emily Langley hit a3-run home run to right field for a 4-1 lead. Candance Avantssingled, stole second and scored on Foster’s RBI single to make it5-1.

The Lady Warriors score 2 run in the fourth and 1 in the sixthto cut the deficit to 5-4.

In the bottom of the seven, an error allowed the lead off batterto first. An apparent force out at second was somehow overruled bythe home-plate umpire. Following a wild pitch, a sacrifice flyyielded the tying run. Co-Lin intentionally walked the next batterwho rounded first and came back with the ball in the circle.According to Coach Kent, this should have been ruled an out but nocall was made. The next batter was intentionally walked to load thebases.

Rousseau induced a ground ball to second where second basemanKayla Crochet was run into by the runner as she was fielding theball. Obstruction was not called and the umpires ran off the fieldto end the game.

“You hate to lose a game that way,” said Kent. There were manyquestionable calls on both sides today. The fate of the game shouldbe in the player’s hands.

“Today, they were not given that chance. However, we made toomany errors and had some mental mistakes too. We must take it up afew notches when we return to division play next week.”

Ashley Jones went five innings, allowing 9 hits and 4 earnedruns. Jones struck tout 1 and walked 1. Rousseau took thetough-luck loss. She threw 1 and 1/3 innings and allowed no hitswith 2 strikeouts.

Crochet, Sykes, Avants and Foster collected singles.

“East Central is the 3-time defending Central Division champ andthey always give us a tough battle,” added Kent.
