Mary Helen Dickey Carter
Services for Mary Helen Dickey Carter, of Brookhaven, will beheld at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church inBrookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Byram D.McKenzie will officiate. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is Friday from noon until 7 p.m. at the funeral home,with family present from 6 until 7 p.m.
Mrs. Carter, 74, died March 22, 2008, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital in Jackson. She was born in Lincoln County onFeb. 9, 1934, to John Dickey and Cattie Winston Dickey.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and was amember of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, where she served as a classleader until her health failed. She also worked with the YoungPeople Department and the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church InspirationalChoir. Mary graduated from Alexander High School, the Class of1954, where she was an outstanding basketball player, and alongwith her teammates won State Championship titles for 1953 and 1954.She worked as a welder at Jacobsen/Homelite Textron. Afterretirement, she enjoyed caring for children as a private sitter forthe families of Jim and Jennifer Richmond and Don and Sally Doty.She was the matriarch for her family. She also exemplified theMinistry of Help to all.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, NathanCarter Sr.; and her son, Derrick L. Carter; and 14 sisters andbrothers.
Mary Helen, known to her family as “Yuitt,” leaves to cherishher loving memories: four daughters, Brenda Henderson (Sylvester),Cathy Benjamin (Carson), all of Brookhaven, Ebonie Hackett(Victor), of Crystal Springs, and Dorothy Smith (Olian), ofJoliette; four sons, Jason Carter (Arlene), of Brookhaven, KennethCarter (Catrena), of Birmingham, Roy Carter (Iona), of Hazlehurst,and Nathan Carter Jr. (Linda), of Hattiesburg; one sister, EarlineWilliams (Charlie), of Brookhaven; three sisters-in-law, AileneFairman, Lizzie Dickey and Pennie Dickey; 17 grandchildren; eightgreat-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relativesand friends.
Jonah Freeman
Services for Jonah Freeman, of Caseyville, will be held at 1p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Churchin Caseyville. Hazlehurst Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.
Mr. Freeman was born on Nov. 4, 1946, to Willie Freeman and MaryLue Kelly Freeman.
He was a well-known logger for many years and in his lateryears, became a respected heavy equipment operator at Dickerson andBowen. He joined St. Paul M.B. Church at an early age and was infull fellowship when he departed this life.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, ThelmaJohnson; his brother, Willie L. Freeman; and his grandson, JonathanFreeman Doss.
Survivors are his wife of 41 years, Joann Freeman, ofCaseyville; his daughters, Lori Doss, Regina Fleming, ofCaseyville, Sonya Perdue, of Jackson and Mignon Compton, ofVirginia Beach, Va.; his son, Joshua Collins, of Brookhaven; hissister, Mary Mack, of Los Angeles, Calif.; his brother, John C.Freeman, of Caseyville; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.
Linda Jean Hancock Summers
Services for Linda Jean Hancock Summers, of McCall Creek, willbe held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 28, at Ramah Baptist Churchwith burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home onNatchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the church, and onFriday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Mrs. Summers, 66, died March 26, 2008, at her residence. She wasborn in Franklin County on Feb. 19, 1942, to Robert Ellison Hancockand Ruth Lewis Hancock.
She was an instructor with Allied Enterprises. She was a memberof Ramah Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors are her brothers, Robert Ellison Hancock Jr., ofLucien, Phillip Neal Hancock, of Sacramento, Calif., and Gary WayneHancock, of McCall Creek; her sister, Glenda June Bates, of McCallCreek; her 11 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces andgreat-nephews; and two great-great-nephews.
Zelle Elizabeth Williams
Zelle Elizabeth Williams, of Meadville, died Tuesday, March 25,2008, at Meadville Nursing Home. Services are 11 a.m. on Friday,March 27, in the chapel at Lakewood Funeral Home on ClintonBoulevard. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. onFriday.
Mrs. Williams, 85, is preceded in death by her husband PaulWilliams; five brothers; two sisters; and her grandson, TimKluge.
She is survived by her son, Paul N. Williams, of Brandon; herdaughters, Brenda McCall, of McCall Creek, and Jo Ann Baker, ofPearl; her brothers, Ray Gene Harris, of Sparta, Wis., Robert E.Harris, of Fitsburg, Mass., and Howard Harris, of Kilbourne, La.;her sister Shirley Ann Tullos, of Kilbourne, La.; 10 grandchildren,11 great-grandchildren and a host of other extended family.

Services for Alvin A. Woodard, of Anchorage, Alaska, will beheld at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Mt. Olive MissionaryBaptist Church in Kirby with burial in Meadville Cemetery. TylerFuneral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Friday from noon until 7 p.m. at thefuneral home.
Mr. Woodard, 42, died March 19, 2008, at Anchorage RegionalHospital. He was born in Franklin County on Dec. 12, 1965, toJoseph Woodard and Mae Dell Harris Woodard.
He was a graduate of Franklin County High School. He worked onthe bell staff with Hilton in Anchorage.
Preceding him in death was his father, Joseph Woodard.
Survivors are his mother, Mae Dell Harris Woodard, of Bude; hisdaughters, Chekia Hammette, of Fayette, Kia Woodard and AlishaWoodard, both of Arkansas, Kenyatta Knight, of Brookhaven, andTeanna Smith, of Bude; his brothers, Ronnie Woodard, of Anchorage,and Rickey Woodard, of Bude; his sisters, Pamela Davis, ofMeadville, Brenda Carradine, of Kirby, and Patricia Watkins, ofAnchorage.
