The Brookhaven Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’sDepartment and the AARP are planning quite an affair for Tuesday’sannual TRIAD Spring Fling.

The Spring Fling is an event where seniors can gather with theirpeers for lunch and information at the Multi-Purpose Building from9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8. Booths will be set upwith information on health-related matters and other thingspertinent to the aging population.

TRIAD spokesperson Charles Ralph Smith said last year’s SpringFling drew 300 seniors, and that this year preparations are beingmade for at least that many.

“We’ve had over 300 people the last two or three years,” saidSmith. “It’s open to all senior citizens, but we won’t be checkingIDs.”

Smith said the booths and information centers will be set up forseniors to pick up flyers, ask questions and gather other pertinentknowledge. There will be blood pressure screenings, vendors anddoor prizes.

“It’ll be mostly health facilities, but there will be otherthings there, too,” he said. “It’s really just things that concernsenior citizens and the betterment of their lifestyles.”

Law enforcement officials also see the event as a chance toreinforce to seniors how important their welfare is to thecommunity.

TRIAD helps provide protection through the R.U.O.K. program,which calls to check on those who enroll daily and dispatches anofficer if they do not answer their phones. TRIAD also has aprogram where people who do not have 911 numbers on their homes canget a reflective sign with their address numbers to put by the roadto help emergency vehicles locate their homes.

Those in attendance at the Spring Fling can expect door prizesand a lunch catered by Ms. Bea’s. Entertainment will be provided byhumorist Clyde Ray Webber.
