Wolves dump Warriors in twinbill

WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves baseball team captured a baseballdoubleheader from the East Central Warriors Wednesday night atSullivan Field.

The Wolves clinch the opener 5-3 and nailed down a 6-3 victoryin the second contest.

With the sweep, the Wolves improve to 18-15 on the season. EastCentral falls to 20-15.

Co-Lin invades division rival Pearl River (22-12) Saturday for atwinbill. The first game begins at 1 p.m.

“I thought we came out and played with a little energy and lifttoday,” said Co-Lin head baseball coach Keith Case. “The pitchingfor us was good. We pitched well. We had some timely hits. That wasthe key thing.”

Co-Lin 5, East Central 3

Patrick Shumaker (3-2) posted the win with 3 runs allowed on 7hits, 2 strikeouts and no walks. Robert Westbrook (2-3) allowed 5runs on 5 hits, struck out 6 batters and walked 2.

The Warriors went up 1-0 in the top of the fourth. Taebyus Smithpowered the Wolves with a 3-run home run in the bottom of thefourth inning for a 3-1 lead.

“Smith’s 3-run homer in fourth was the biggest blow,” said Case.”It put us up by 2.”

East Central came back with a pair of runs in the top of thefifth to tie the game at 2-all.

Co-Lin roared back in the bottom of the fifth with 2 runs totake the lead and the win.

James Antoon singled and Montez Chapman reached base on infielderror. Jordan Toney scored pinch runner Bennett Wilson (for Antoon)from second and Steve Gauthe’s sacrifice fly scored Chatman.

Toney had 2 singles for the Wolves. Josh Coon singled.

For the Warriors, Jacob Casey led with a double and a single.Chris Parkman had 2 singles. Doubling was Luke Walker. JackEdmondson and Alan Cheek singled.

Co-Lin 6, East Central 3

Josh Evans worked 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 3 walksand 3 strikeouts. Brock Campbell worked the seventh in relief andallowed 1 hit and struck out 1 batter.

The losing hurler was Timothy Maloney who worked 2.3 innings,allowing 6 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Greg Stovalltook over in the third and recorded 1 hit, and 3 walks. In thefifth, Mack Creighton took over and allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and 1strikeout.

Powering Co-Lin at bat was Steven Gauthe with a triple and asingle. Toney and Smith each doubled and singled. Ripping a pair ofsingles was Paul Davis. Mason Warren singled.

For East Central, Jack Edmondson led with a double and single.Robert Westbrook singled twice. Luke Walker and Brandon Williamssingled.
