Brookhaven hammers Terry

The Brookhaven Panthers continued their winning ways Saturdayafternoon at Moyer Field. Ole Brook won their eighth-straight game,authoring a 9-2 win over the No. 10-ranked Terry Bulldogs.

Terry, a former member of Division 6-4A that now resides in6-5A, saw a 13-game winning streak halted with the loss. Head CoachJerry Gibson’s Bulldogs fell to 16-4 on the campaign.

Panther sophomore Brandon Foster (3-1) picked up the win,scattering 7 hits, allowing 2 earned runs, walked 3 and struck out4 Terry batters. Foster had 3 singles, scored a run and had 2 RBIsat the plate.

“Brandon located his pitches well today,” said Brookhaven headcoach Randy Spring. “He hit the ball good.”

Brookhaven travels to 6-4A foe Florence Tuesday for a JV/Varsitydoubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. The Panthers hosts the EaglesFriday night for varsity doubleheader at 5 on Senior Night.

The Panthers (19-5) got the game started on the defensive sidein the top of the first. Ole Brook turned a pair of 1-3-6 pickoffplays between first and second, to retire the side.

Spring’s ballclub fed off the momentum and pushed 3 runs crosshomeplate in the bottom of the inning to claim a 3-0 lead.

With 1 out, first baseman Paxton King walked. Shortstop BudBritt singled. Two batters later, designated hitter Cody Ratcliff’ssingle loaded the bases. Leftfielder Brice Huckaby doubled to scoreKing and Britt; moving Ratcliff to third. Ratcliff would laterscore on a passed ball by Bulldog pitcher Conner Butts.

Ole Brook exploded for 5 runs in the third. Britt, NickHelmstetter, Huckaby, Jarvis Wilbert and Foster scored. Wilbert’sRBI single highlighted the inning.

Terry cut their deficit to 8-1 in the fourth. Catcher RashunDixon, a Mississippi State football signee, walked and moved tosecond on a fielder’s choice. Michael Manley’s single scoredDixon.

Britt reached on a single in the bottom of the fourth.Helmstetter singled. Ratcliff walked to load the bases. After 2strikeouts by Butts, Foster drilled his third single of the day toscore Britt.

Brookhaven led 9-1 heading into the fifth.

Manley singled in the seventh and later scored on a bases-loadedRBI single by Meridian Community College signee Jonathan pace.

“The entire lineup contributed to the win,” Coach Springcommented following the game. “Good win over a good ballclub.”

Britt led the Panthers with a double, 2 singles and 3 runsscored; also picking up his third save of the season by strikingout the final 2 Terry batters.

Lending support were Huckaby and Wilbert each with 2 RBIs.Helmstetter, Ratcliff and Chris Dixon had a base hit apiece.

Butts suffered the loss for the Bulldogs. He went the distance(6 innings) allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 11 hits, issuing 4 baseon balls with 4 strikeouts. Manley led Terry at the plate with asingle and a double.
