Board fills asst. principal slots

The Brookhaven School District Board announced in their regularmeeting Tuesday evening that two of the district’s own will move upto positions of leadership on city school campuses.

On the recommendation of new Brookhaven High School PrincipalJay Smith, Coach Patrick Hardy will fill the assistant principalslot left open by longtime administrator John Ogden, saidBrookhaven School Superintendent Lea Barrett. Hardy has been withBHS for eight years.

In addition, she said, Coach Roderick Henderson will fill thenewly opened position of assistant principal at Alexander JuniorHigh School.

“They will both terminate their coaching careers,” Barrettsaid.

Both men will take their new positions effective July 1. Barrettassured the school board members the men would remain with theircoaching duties through the end of spring training.

In other action, the board voted to recommend June 17 as thedate for the public hearing on the school district’s budget for the2008-2009 school year. The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. in theconference room at the school district office.

“Ms. (Susan) Quin and I conferred and looked at last year’scalendars,” said Barrett, adding that the timing of the publichearing would give the board time to mull the discussion before theregular meeting the next week.

The findings of the public hearing and the new budget will beapproved at meeting on June 24, Barrett said.
