Co-Lin gets needed split with Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON — The Co-Lin Wolves got a must needed split Saturdaywith the Gulf Coast Bulldogs in a key South Division baseballdoubleheader.
Co-Lin won the opener 3-0 and fell to the hosts in the finale8-3.
Game Three will be played today at Perkinston at 4 p.m. Thewinner advances to the state tournament in Itawamba Thursday andwill meet Meridian.

Joseph Evans (6-3) was the winning pitcher, working the firstsix innings with no runs and 4 hits allowed, 1 walk and 5strikeouts. Finishing the seventh inning was Brandt Hinton whocollected his second save of the season.
“It was a good ball game,” said Co-Lin head baseball coach KeithCase. “Evans pitched a great ball game. We needed one win to keepon playing.”
Powering the Wolves at the plate was Paul Davis with a pair ofsingles. Timmy Foster doubled. Singling were Montez Chatman, StevenGauthe’, Josh Coone, Taebyus Smith and James Antoon.
Absorbing the loss was Clint Dempster (4-4). Dempster fanned 8batters, walked 2 and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits.
Singling for Gulf Coast were Jerron Casey, Jacob Daniel and MattBennett.

The Wolves out hit the Bulldogs 9-8 but left 10 runners strandedaccording to Case.
“We allowed 7 runs with 2 outs,” added Case. “Gulf Coast swungthe bats hard.”
For the Wolves, Paul Davis doubled and singled twice. Coone hita double and a single. Doubling were Jordan Toney and Chatman.Jarred Rogers and Gauthe’ singled.
The Bulldogs were led by Richard Atwood and Bo Bell who eachhomered and singled. Bennett, Derek Davis and Jeremy Davis doubled.Hitting safely was Jacob Daniel.
On the mound, Drew Granier posted the win with 3 runs allowed on8 hits, 6 strikeouts and 3 walks. Craig MacKay allowed 1 hits, noruns, walked 1 and struck out 2.
For the Wolves, Patrick Shoemaker (5-5) took the loss, working4.1 innings with 7 runs allowed on 6 hits,. 1 walk and 2strikeouts. Relieving Shoemaker the remainder of the game was KolbyGodfrey with 1 run allowed on 2 hits,1 walk and no strikeouts.
