Services for Carey Paul Jackson, of Brookhaven, will be held at11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church inBrookhaven with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven FuneralHome on Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mr. Jackson, 75, died May 3, 2008, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital in Jackson. He was born in Lincoln County onApril 12, 1933, to Lucius Jackson and Bessie Lofton Jackson.
He was a 1952 graduate of West Lincoln High School and attendedand graduated from Whitworth GI Business School. He served in theKorean War Conflict in 1954-55. A Lincoln County native, Mr.Jackson was an avid fisherman and loved to travel. He was employedfor 18 years in non-food sales with the Lewis Grocer Co. (SunflowerFood Stores). He then owned and operated Brookhaven Super Value for12 years. He retired in 2001 from the Lincoln County Sheriff’sDepartment. He was a member and trustee of Pleasant Grove BaptistChurch and a member of Billy Powell Smith Sunday School Class forover 50 years. He was a member of Woodmen of the World Lodges 04 ofNatchez and 09 of Brookhaven.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and his brothers, LenoxJackson, of McComb, Johnny Jackson, of Vicksburg, and James L.Jackson, of Brookhaven.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Johnnie Fay Smith Jackson,of Brookhaven; his son, Carey Dwayne “Dane” Jackson and wife DebraDavis Jackson, of Brookhaven; his grandchildren, Kathryn AnnJackson, Paul Garrett Jackson and Collin Davis Jackson, all ofBrookhaven; his sister, Onetto Jackson Greer and brother-in-law,Frank Greer, of Ft. Worth, Texas; his brother, C.L. Jackson andsister-in-law, Wisie Jackson, of Brookhaven; his sisters-in-law,Kathryn Smart, of Ferriday, La., Maude Smith, Evelyn Smith, ParaLee Smith and Laverne Lea, all of Brookhaven.
