Bogue Chitto offers 2 games at once in Thurs. jamboree

BOGUE CHITTO — Coach Gareth Sartin of Bogue Chitto believesfootball fans will enjoy a double-feature bonus Thursday at theBogue Chitto Football Jamboree. It starts tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. onTroy Smith Field and features five area teams.

Under the jamboree format, two games or scrimmages will beconducted simultaneously on each side of the 50-yard line. Therewill be a running clock as the teams alternate on offense anddefense, every 10 minutes.

In the opener, Bogue Chitto plays South Pike and Wesson faces WestLincoln on the other side of the 50-yard line.

At 6:05, Bogue Chitto plays Dexter and Wesson meets South Pike.

At 7 p.m., Wesson plays Bogue Chitto and Dexter plays WestLincoln.

At 7:36, West Lincoln plays Bogue Chitto and Dexter plays SouthPike.

“It will be a scrimmage type game,” said Sartin.

Action starts at the 40-yard line. If the defensive team gets afumble or interception, the football returns to the 40-yardline.

“We will do the same thing with the junior varsity, with 5 minuteson defense and 5 minutes on offense,” said Sartin

For obvious reasons, Sartin said there will be no scores posted onthe scoreboard.

“You will know if you win or lose. If you score more touchdownsthan the other team, you know who won.”

Sartin said he likes the format. “All of the players will have anopportunity to see action. You can work a lot of different stuffand play four different teams.

“It’s a good way to scout and evaluate,” said Sartin.

The jamboree will conclude spring practice for most area schools. The Brookhaven Panthers, coached by Tucker Peavey, participate in ajamboree at North Forrest in Hattiesburg next Thursday, May 15.

Lawrence County, coached by Mike Davis, participles in a Thursdayjamboree at Taylorsville, starting at 6:30. The Cougars meetTaylorsville and Vicksburg.
