MONTICELLO — The Lawrence County Cougars will have one baseballcoach, a football player, a fastpitch softball player and twoslowpitch softball players participating in the MississippiAssociation of Coaches North vs. South All-Star games thissummer.

Representing the Cougars are head baseball coach Cory Keyes,football player Julius Magee, fastpitch softball player Dee DeeWalker and slowpitch softball players Shaina Starks and KateDavis.

The baseball all-star game will be played Saturday, June 7, atTrustmark Park in Pearl. The football game is set for Thursday,July 17, at Mississippi College in Clinton.

In 4 years as head coach at LCHS, Keyes is 102-29. Keyes willwork with Vancleave coach Michael Henry.

“It’s an honor to be selected to coach an all-star team by yourfellow coaches,” stated Keyes

Julius Magee (6-1, 240) played fullback and linebacker for headfootball coach Mike Davis at Lawrence County.

“I feel real happy,” said Magee about being selected as a SouthAll-Star. ” I am excited about being an all-star.”

Magee, who has signed with Co-Lin, rushed the football 28 timesfor 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. On defense, Magee led the team with58 solo stops and 79 total tackles. He recovered 2 fumbles.

He plans to major in math/teaching and coaching andcoaching.

“l’ll be able to show them what Lawrence County football is allabout,” added Magee of the All-Star game experience.

Shaina Starks will be playing her final high school slowpitchsoftball game of her career. Starks, who was selected to The DAILYLEADER’S 2007 All-Area Slowpitch Softball Dream Team, led CoachJill Haney’s Lady Cougars with a .625 batting average. She playedleft-center field.

Starks is going to attend Southern Miss. She plans to major innursing.

“It’s going to be a great experience,” said Starks of playing onthe South All-Stars team. “It’ll be my last game before I go tocollege. Softball has been a great opportunity in my life”

Kate Davis, like Starks, is also playing her final high schoolgame. Davis played second base. Davis will be attending JonesCounty Community College in the fall where she will be acheerleader for the Bobcats.

“It’s a great opportunity to play with the people I playedagainst,” said Davis. “Maybe we can come together to beat theNorth.”

Davis is undecided on a major.

Dee Dee Walker, who signed to play softball with the Co-Lin LadyWolves, played slowpitch and fastpitch. Walker is looking forwardto her final high school game. She played shortstop.

“It’s a great opportunity,” said Walker of being selected to theSouth All-Stars team. “I am very happy to be selected. I’d like tothank my coach (Beronica Stringfellow).”

Walker plans to major in sports medicine.
