Sister faces charges in brother’s stabbing

MONTICELLO – A Lawrence County High School student was stabbedto death Sunday afternoon in the apparent fallout from a familyfeud, authorities said.

Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames said the body of 18-year-oldBrad Preston, a Lawrence County High School senior who was set tograduate Thursday, was found in the front yard of his sister’sresidence on Smith Cooper Lane in the North Pleasant Hill communityof New Hebron Sunday. Thames said the Lawrence County coroner cameto the scene and pronounced Preston dead of a single stab wound tothe chest after a sheriff’s deputy discovered the body whileresponding to a 911 call.

Preston’s sister, 22-year-old Lakeisha Preston, was arrested atthe scene and was to be charged officially with one count of murderthis morning, Thames said.

“The only thing we can say at this moment is it appears anargument ensured, it escalated and during the argument Preston wasstabbed once in the chest with a butcher knife,” Thames said. “Theincident is still being investigated.”

Thames said Preston’s body was transported to Jackson for anautopsy late Sunday night.
