Services for John Hightower Jr., of Brookhaven, will be held at11 a.m. on Monday, May 26, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church inBrookhaven with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brookhaven. R.E.Tyler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. at the funeral home,with family present from 3 until 4 p.m.

Mr. Hightower, 76, died May 21, 2008, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital in Jackson. He was born in Preston, Ga., on Oct.31, 1931, to John Hightower Sr. and Lillie Mae Wiley Hightower.

He was retired from the United States Air Force and was on theelection commission for 28 years. He also worked at JohnsonLawnmower Plant in Brookhaven. He was a member of the Veterans ofForeign Wars, chair of the United Methodist Men, and a member andtrustee at Kynett-Pilgrim United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, KennethHightower.

Survivors are his wife, Josie Byrd Hightower, of Brookhaven; hisdaughter, Brenda Hightower, of Boston, Mass.; his sister-in-law,Emelda Bryant, of Brookhaven; his nieces, Charlisa Lewis, ofBrookhaven, Robin Hightower Dunwitty, of Canton, Ohio, CarolineHightower Smith, of Warren, Va.; and Lisa Hightower, of WestVirginia; his nephew, Dwayne Hightower, of Cincinnati, Ohio; hisgrandnieces, Courtney and Tiara Johnson, of Brookhaven; hisgrandnephew, Davin Johnson, of Brookhaven; and his grandson,Eric.
