MEADVILLE — Franklin County Head Baseball coach Jeremy Loy hasresigned from his post after two seasons at the helm. Assistantcoach Brent Calcote has been named the Diamond Dawgs new headcoach.

Loy, a Natchez native, went 42-15 in two seasons with theDiamond Dawgs, guiding them to a 24-7 record and to the third roundof the 3A State Playoffs before falling to state champion Sumrallin a best-of-three series.

“This season was fun and we had a good one,” said Loy. “I feel Ileave the program in a good situation. I know Brent will do a goodjob.”

Calcote is the son of Franklin County native and currentMississippi Gulf Coast Community College athletic director ChrisCalcote. He is a 2003 USM graduate and a 1998 Stone County HighSchool alumnus.

“I’m excited about the opportunity,” said Calcote about takingover the Diamond Dawgs program. “It’s a good situation. We had agood season this year and hopefully that will carry over as we tryto reach the next level.”

The Diamond Dawgs made it past the first round of the 3Aplayoffs this season for the first time since 1998. FCHS loses fiveseniors off that team.

“We’re going to lose some good ones, but we’ve got some guyscoming up,” added Calcote. “They’ve just got to step it up.”

Brad Mullins, a former Franklin County All-State baseballstandout, will stay on as assistant baseball coach, while formerBulldog Vance Windom joins the staff as a assistant and junior highhead coach. Windom, the 2002 All-Area Player of the Year, coachedat South Pike last year.

“This is a great opportunity to come back and coach at FranklinHigh,” said Windom. “I look forward to working with the kids andserving on Coach Calcote’s staff.”
