McDowell signs to play at Co-Lin

MEADVILLE – Ever since Ben McDowell was a little leaguer hewanted to pitch on the college level, now McDowell will get thatchance as Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolf.

McDowell signed a baseball scholarship with Co-Lin recentlydespite hearing from Meridian CC, East Central CC and Southwest CChis senior season as a Bulldog.

“I just felt good about going to Co-Lin,” said McDowell. “I lookforward to playing there.”

The southpaw McDowell went 8-2 on the mound this season with a0.89 ERA. He had five shutouts on the season, including two in theplayoffs.

He will pitch in this Saturday’s Mississippi Class 3A, 2A, 1AAll-Star baseball game at Trustmark Park in Pearl. First pitch hasbeen set for 6:00.

“I’m looking forward to the All-Star game,” said McDowell. “Ihad a good year. I worked really hard this season.”

McDowell is one of the many jewel recruits, Co-Lin head baseballcoach Keith Case has signed so far, including Mendenhalloutfielder/pitcher Chris Jones, Adams Christian shortstop LukeBrumfield, and Wesson slugger Jonathan Grace among others.

“I know most of the guys that I will be playing with and thatmeant a lot,” added McDowell. “I look forward to thechallenge.”
