Royce LaVar Williams Dixon

Services for Royce LaVar Williams Dixon, of Brookhaven, will beheld at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, at Brookhaven Living WordChristian Center in Brookhaven with burial on Friday, June 13, at11 a.m., in Rosehill City Cemetery in Brookhaven. Williams Mortuaryis in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday from 1 until 7 p.m. at the church, withfamily hour from 6 until 7 p.m.

Mr. Dixon, 30, died June 7, 2008, at the University ofMississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in New Orleans,La., on March 17, 1978, to Roy Lee Dixon and Beverly Williams DixonHoward.

He was a 1996 graduate of Brookhaven High School. He attendedJackson State University, Delgado Community College in New Orleansand Holmes Community College in Ridgeland, where he was one classaway from completing his degree in Mortuary Science. He was afuneral director with his family-owned business, Williams Mortuary,prior to his disability. After he became disabled, he became CEO ofHeavenly Transportation, a joint venture with his mother. He was aminister with the ROCK Prison Oriented Outreach Ministry.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors are his mother, Beverly Williams Dixon Howard, ofBrookhaven; his stepfather, Johnny B. Howard, of Brookhaven; hissisters, Jennifer Howard, of Brookhaven, Debra Dover, of Memphis,Tenn., Jackie Batteast, of Brookhaven, and Tsylyn Person, of Ft.Worth, Texas; his brothers, Roy M. Dixon and Terry Gayten, both ofBrookhaven; his aunts, Patricia Williams Tillman and PurdeneWilliams Brown, both of Brookhaven, and Ladine Thomas, ofSpringfield, Mass.; his uncle, Julius Dixon, of Detroit, Mich.; andmany relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jewel Dawn McGuffee Kellogg

Jewel Dawn McGuffee Kellogg, of Monticello, died on June 8,2008, at Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello. Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Sept. 12, 1932, to Walter McGuffee and EloiseOffitt McGuffee.

She was a homemaker. She was a veteran of the United States AirForce and served in the Korean War. She was a member of AntiochBaptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother.

Survivors are her son, Lynwood Kellogg; her daughters, RobinLofton and Mechelle Ladd; her brother, Donnie McGuffee; her fivegrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Glen Everett Torrey

Services for Glen Everett Torrey, of Merritt Island, Fla., willbe held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, at Meadville PresbyterianChurch with burial in Midway Cemetery in Meadville. FranklinFuneral Home in Meadville is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the serviceat the church.

Mr. Torrey died June 5, 2008. He was born in Meadville on Aug.7, 1938, to Lexine Everett and James Alexander Torrey, who was thedistinguished circuit court judge for five counties inMississippi.

He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi with anengineering degree. He was a very active member of the Church ofJesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. An avid fisherman and sports carenthusiast, he also played basketball, football and softball.

Mr. Torrey was an important part of manned spaceflight, from thebeginning of the Apollo program to the later days of the shuttleprogram. He began working with North American Rockwell in Downey,Calif., in 1962, as a ground support equipment design engineer forthe Apollo spacecraft before transferring to the Kennedy SpaceCenter in Florida, in 1966, as the project engineer for all Apollofluid and mechanical ground systems. He returned to Downey in 1972,at the completion of the Apollo lunar flight, and becameresponsible for the integration of space shuttle flight and groundsystems. In 1977, he returned to Florida to head up the RockwellShuttle Project Office. From 1984 until 1989 he was the vehicleproject manager for the Challenger and Discovery shuttle orbitersbefore becoming the manager of Shuttle Configuration Requirementsand then manager of GSE Design until his retirement from Rockwell.After his retirement, he continued to support the shuttle program,working with the United Space Alliance at the NASA ShuttleLogistics Depot in Cape Canaveral. His contributions to the U.S.Space Program were extensive.

Survivors are his wife, Marian; his children, Teri (Charlie)Davidson, Jennifer (Bart) Denny, Susan (Ian) Thomas, Tyler(Vanessa) Torrey, Candese (John) Alexander and Geoffrey (Shanley)Marchese; his brother, James (Tammy) Torrey, of Meadville; and 16grandchildren.
