Charles B. Floyd

Services for Charles B. Floyd, of Brookhaven, were 2 p.m.Wednesday, June 25, at Solid Rock Pentecostal Church in Brookhavenwith burial in Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Cemetery. BrookhavenFuneral Home on Natchez Drive was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Floyd, 71, died June 23, 2008, at his residence. He was bornin Lincoln County on April 18, 1937, to Samuel M. Floyd and JohnniePearl Ables Floyd.

He was a retired oil field worker and served in the MississippiArmy National Guard. He was a member of Solid Rock PentecostalChurch.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Joyce ElaineBritt Floyd; his daughter, Tammy Floyd; his grandson Tyler Church;and his great-grandchildren, Micha Layne Womack and Matthan WyattWomack.

Survivors are his sons, Charles Byron Floyd Jr. and wife, Paige,of Brookhaven, Scott Hudson and wife, Jolie, of Brookhaven; hisdaughters, Charla Granger and husband, Bill, of Magnolia, DeniseAvery and husband, Stephen, of Mt. Hermon, La., and Belissa Church,of North Dakota; his brother, his sisters and a host ofgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Jones Gillis

Services for Dorothy Jones Gillis are 10 a.m. Friday, June 27,at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Starkville with burial inPleasant Hill Cemetery in Winston County.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Gillis died June 24, 2008, at Oktibbeha County Hospital inStarkville. She was born in Sturgis on Feb. 15, 1906, to JamesHamilton Jones and Sarah Ivy Jones.

She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a member ofFriendship Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, ChapmanGillis; her brothers, Clarence, Bilbo and Walter Jones; her sister,Eunice Malone; a grandson, Kevin Gillis; and a great-grandson, BradParker.

Survivors are her daughters, Margaret Jeffers, of Vicksburg,Irene Chandler, of Louisville, Kathleen Holmes, of Brookhaven,Helen Stemmer, of El Cajon, Calif., Sally McRorie, of Charlotte,N.C.; her sons, Alton Gillis and Rodger Gillis, both of Sturgis,Algen Gillis and Gerald Gillis, both of Starkville, Jimmy Gillis,of Vicksburg, and Marion Gillis, of Mathiston; her 31grandchildren; her 64 great-grandchildren; her 34great-great-grandchildren and her twogreat-great-great-grandchildren.

Margie Emma Jackson

Services for Margie Emma Jackson, of Jackson, are 11 a.m.Friday, June 27, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Wesson. Baldwin-LeeFuneral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jackson, 83, died June 25, 2008, at Chadwick Nursing andRehabilitation Center in Jackson.

She was born and reared near Loyd Star but lived most of heradult life in Jackson. She worked for more than 30 years as a shiftmanager and waitress at The Krystal on Capitol Street and on TerryRoad. She retired in 1987.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy Dennis Jackson, anIllinois Central Railroad employee, who died in 1968, and by herlongtime best friend, Arthur LaCaze Sr.

Survivors are her only child, Dr. Dennis Jackson, a writer andeducator. He has published numerous books, scholarly articles, andmagazine and newspaper stories, and is currently writing abiography. He retired in 2007 as professor of English andjournalism at the University of Delaware; and her sister NellKimble, of Brookhaven.

Doris Schilling Raborn

Services for Doris Schilling Raborn, of McComb, are 1 p.m.Thursday, June 26, at Jones Family Funeral Services with burial inProgress Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. David Millican will officiateservices.

Mrs. Raborn, 88, died June 24, 2008, at Aston Court RetirementCenter. She was born in Pike County on Aug. 16, 1919, to Prentissand Lynda S. Schilling.

Mrs. Raborn was the owner of Dottie-Dayle Beauty Shop onDelaware Avenue in McComb for many years. She loved sharing herspecial sugar cookies with everyone and loved telling about howsmart her great-grandchildren were. After the death of her husbandWincel Raborn, and selling their home, she absolutely enjoyed everyminute living at Aston Court. She especially loved getting to playthe piano there and her frequent wins at bingo. She was a longtimemember of North McComb Baptist Church and a former member of theFernwood Country Club Ladies Golf Association.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; herbrothers, Doy and Bonny Schilling; her sisters, Wilda S. Alford,Lois S. McMillan, Betty S. Riley and Hazel Schilling.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, W.E. “Dub” Raborn andMargie, of Smyrna, Tenn.; her daughters and sons-in-law, Doris E.Verucchi and John, of Lafayette, La., and Dayle Felder and Gary, ofSummit; a sister, Wanda S. Henry, of Tylertown; three specialfriends, Elaine Robinson, Pat Paterson and Janice Goldman; ninegrandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Derek Raborn, Chris Felder, Greg Raborn,Darren Felder, Baker Raborn and Mike Taylor.

Hollis Barnett Rutter

Services for Hollis Barnett Rutter, of Troy, Ala., are 10 a.m.on Friday, June 27, at Brookhaven Funeral Home on North JacksonStreet with burial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Rutter, 81, died June 24, 2008, at Baptist South MedicalCenter in Montgomery, Ala. He was born in Lincoln County on Nov. 7,1926, to William Sherman Rutter and Eva Buchanan Rutter.

Mr. Rutter was a retired teacher and football coach. He was agraduate of Mississippi College. He was of the Methodist faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Anne AshmoreRutter; and a son, Steven Rutter.

Survivors are his son, Stan Rutter, of Troy, Ala.; his sister;Waldryn Busby, of Laurel; his granddaughters, Sara Peden, ofMobile, Ala., Taylor Rutter and Lauren Rutter, both of Burlington,Wis.; his great-granddaughters, Savannah and Kaleigh, ofMobile.
