Wesson captures subdistrict crown

NATCHEZ — The Wesson 12- year-old All-Stars hammered their wayto the Dixie Youth Baseball Major League North Subdistrict SixTournament championship Monday evening at Duncan Park by defeatingthe host team 8-2.
“Wesson got another dominating pitching performance from LandonNettles (2-0) who allowed only two hits in the championship contestagainst Natchez. Nettles was only 4 days removed from a one-hitperformance over Lincoln County. Nettles recorded 12 strikeouts onthe evening while issuing 6 walks last night.
Offensively, Wesson was led by centerfielder Les Parker who hada huge three-run triple in the 5th inning to push the Wesson leadto 8-2. Parker also singled.
“Nettles doubled. Bailey Warren, Brandon Nettles and Austin Crowalso singled for Wesson.
“Wesson exploded for 5 first-inning runs ,aided by 3 walks fromNatchez starter Brandon Ross. Ross would take the loss forNatchez.
“Our goal since this bunch was eight years old was to make it tothe State tournament,” stated a proud Wesson coach Bradley Crow.”They clawed and fought every year to get better and win, lose, ordraw…they get to realize that dream this year. I am so proud ofwhat they have acomplished. It has been a privledge to coach theseguys along with Scott (Warren) and Jerry (Burns).”
The Wesson All Stars will visit the South champion Thursday.Franklin County and Summit battle Tuesday night for the Southtitle. Wesson will host game 2 of the best of three series Saturdayat 6 p.m. A coin flip will decide game three if necessary.
