Mary Nell ‘Sarah’ Owens
Services for Mary Nell “Sarah” Owens, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Monday, July 14, at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with burial inthe church cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 1 until 6 p.m. with family present from 6until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Owens, 68, died July 8, 2008, at Countrybrook Living Center.She was born in Lincoln County on Oct. 7, 1939, to Hosea WilcherSr. and Selma Well Wilcher.
She was disabled. She was a member of Siloam Missionary BaptistChurch.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Walter “Son”Owens; a great-grandson, Trashawn Owens; her brothers, T.C.”Fisher” Wilcher and James “Brother” Wilcher.
Survivors are her sons, Jerome Owens, Walter Owens Jr., TimmieOwens and Kelvin Owens and wife, Khadijha, all of Brookhaven; herdaughters, Lucille Owens, Vickie Lyons and husband, Karl, PhiliciaGray and husband, David, Tammy Owens, Charlotte Owens, Tina Owensand Samantha Owens and husband, Kevin, all of Brookhaven; herbrother, Hosea Wilcher Jr., of Brookhaven; her sisters, DorothyRice and husband, Willie, of Brookhaven, Lillie Wilcher, ofBrookhaven, Marie Bulter, of Chicago, and Yvonne Humphrey Johnsonand husband, Sam, of Milwaukee, Wis.; her six stepchildren, DianneWashington and husband, Teddy, of Brookhaven, Linda Winter, LisaDiggs, Victor Diggs and wife, Bessie, Henry Diggs and wife, Sheila,and Morris Diggs, all of Bogue Chitto; her 28 grandchildren; 13great-grandchildren; her special friend, Henry Diggs; and herdevoted friends, Barbara Mitchell, Pinkie Bowman, Virgie Clark, allof Brookhaven.

Services for Richard Short, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Saturday,July 12, at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church Chapel in Brookhavenwith burial in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. TheRev. Charles Caston will officiate. N.A. James Funeral Home inHammond, La., is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Saturday from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at the church.
Mr. Short, 46, died July 8, 2008, at his residence. He was born inHazlehurst on April 30, 1962, to Lucas Ball Short and Myrtle LeeShort.
He attended Hazlehurst High School. He was employed at KeystoneSeneca for 20 years and the Brookhaven Housing Authority for eightyears. He was also employed at Balfour Beatty Rail Inc. under thesupervision of Terry Smith, until his health began to fail. He wasa member of Gallman Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and aftermoving to Brookhaven, he joined and served as an usher at BeulahChapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev.Caston. He married Carla Chapman on April 22, 2000. He had aspiritual gift with children, which earned him the honor of being afather of eight.
Preceding him in death were his father; and a brother, James EarlShort.
Survivors are his mother; his wife, Carla Chapman Short; hischildren, Orlandas, Deric, Danielle and Natasha Short, all ofBrookhaven; his brothers, Lucas Short, Wade Short and Martin Short,all of Hazlehurst; his sister, Myrtle Mae Holly, of Hazlehurst;Harold Tyler, of Jacksonville, Fla.; his uncle, Marcus Short, ofHazlehurst; his former wife, Rose Mary White, and children Damion,Vonda and Takedria White, all of Hazlehurst; his godmother, RubyCastor, of Brookhaven; his nephews; nieces; uncle; aunts; cousins;other relatives and many, many friends.
Pallbearers are Wade Short, Martin Short, Jerome Short, CharlesShort, Anthony Short and Harold Tyler.
