West Lincoln girls roar past Wesson

WESSON – West Lincoln first baseman Haley Ainsworth smashed aninside-the -park home run and a triple Friday night to power theLady Bears in a 13-2 slowpitch softball victory over the winlessWesson Lady Cobras in five innings. The game was stopped at the endof the fifth on the 10-run rule.
With the victory, West Lincoln improved to 6-1 overall. Wesson,the defending Division 6-2A champion, fell to 0-4.
“It was the worst game we have played since I have been herecoaching,” said Wesson head softball coach Hugh Webb after thegame. “We had a total lack of effort. We worked too hard to playlike this.”
“The Bears outhit the Cobras 16-4 at the plate.
“One of the best games we have had all year,” said West Lincolnhead coach Andrew Redd. “I was real pleased with our hitting. “
“Posting the win was Jessica Franklin (4-1) with 1 strikeout and2 walks.
” “Jessica did a great job,” complimented Redd.
“Taking the was loss Laney McQuage (0-4) with 2 walks.
” “Laney threw well,” said Webb.
“Following a scoreless first inning, West Lincoln scored tworuns in the top of the second and two in the third for a 4-2 lead.The Cobras came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the thirdto cut the deficit to 4-3.
“The fifth inning saw the visitors explode for nine unansweredruns to push their lead to 13-2.
“Leftfielder Ann Shelby Davis led Wesson with a triple. SummerRials, Dallas Jackson and Mack Rials singled.
Contributing to the West Lincoln win with a double and a singlewas Shelby Lofton. Hannah Knouse, Julie Case and Ashley McCafferysingled twice. Liana Laird and Kayla Beth Rushing ripped a doubleapiece. Hitting safely were Alexis Cook, Keri Easley, KarliHerrington, and Franklin.
In the junior varsity game, West Lincoln knocked off Wesson12-1.
