Juanita Griffith

Services for Juanita Griffith, of Monticello, are 2 p.m.Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticellowith burial in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello.

Mrs. Griffith, 86, died Sept. 1, 2008, at her residence. She wasborn in Lawrence County on Nov. 1, 1921, to Houston Townsend andMattie Thompson Townsend.

She was a retired supervisor. She was a member of AntiochBaptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Claude V.Griffith; her four brothers, Jim, Oscar, Houston and AustinTownsend; her two sisters, Arline Brister and Veda Townsend.

Survivors are a daughter, Joeann Wallace, of Monticello; hersisters, Ouida Miller, of Monticello, and Prudia Miller, ofFlorence; a grandchild, Pam Case and husband, Tony, of Monticello;her two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Cody Case; and agreat-great-grandchild, Caden Case.

Jackie Oliver Hanshew

Services for Jackie Oliver Hanshew, of Sontag, are 11 a.m.Thursday, Sept. 4, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel on NorthJackson Street with burial in Nola Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mr. Hanshew, 64, died Aug. 30, 2008, at Regency Hospital inJackson. He was born in Lawrence County on March 3, 1944, toWoodrow Hanshew and Nonerle Foster Hanshew.

He was a retired oilfield and offshore worker. He was a memberof the Brookhaven Moose Lodge and Nola Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his father; his grandparents, Jackand Lillie Foster and Henry and Maude Hanshew; and his aunts,Louise Carlisle and Limmie B. Herring.

Survivors are his mother; his wife, Janet Hales Hanshew, ofSontag; his sons, Robert Carroll and David Wayne; a stepson, CarlSmith Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Brandon; his stepdaughters, AngelaSmith Richardson, of DeKalb, and Jeannie Smith, of Philadelphia;his sisters, Shirlene Stephens and husband, Jimmy, Trish Davis andhusband, Benny, all of Monticello, and Jan Smith and husband, Joe,of Montgomery, Ala.; his brothers-by-heart, Wayne Lee Stewart andJames Mercier; his four nephews; his two nieces; and his 16grandchildren.

Louise M. Petty

Services for Louise M. Petty, of Monticello, are 1 p.m.Thursday, Sept. 4, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello withburial in Leesburg Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Petty, 92, died Sept. 1, 2008, at Lawrence County NursingCenter. She was born in Rankin County on Jan. 2, 1916, to JohnMcKay and Susie Bell Holmes McKay.

She was a professional fisherman. She was a member of LakeHarbor Baptist Church in Rankin County.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, MosesEugene Petty; a brother, Joe Dick McKay; and a sister, ElsieThrash.

Survivors are a daughter, Daphene Vining, of Monticello; and agrandson, Marvin Vining, of Monticello.
