Charles Edward Britt Sr.

Services for Charles Edward Britt Sr., of Nederland, Texas, are2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church inBrookhaven. Broussard Mortuary in Beaumont, Texas is in charge ofarrangements.

Mr. Britt, 74, died Sept. 14, 2008, at his residence. He wasborn on March 31, 1934 to Homer L. Britt and Ida Minton Britt.

He married Ida Lee Ratcliff on May 19, 1952 and moved to Texasin 1954, where his first son, Charles “Eddie” Edward Britt Jr. wasborn. He retired from the Firestone Rubber Company in Orange, Texasafter 32 years of service and remained in Nederland, his hometownfor 50 years. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church inNederland also for 50 years, where he served as a deacon and churchleader.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Ida Lee Ratcliff Britt; abrother, James Britt; and his sisters, Allie Mae Britt Gunnell,Betty Vee Britt Brewer and Dorthey Jean Britt Smith.

Survivors are his sons, Charles “Eddie” Edward Britt Jr. andAnthony Carlos Britt; a daughter, Deborah Lee Britt Hanley; hisbrothers, Clayton Britt and Tom Britt, both of Wesson; a sister,Lessie Carolyn Britt McCoy, of Bronson, Fla.; his 10 grandchildren;and his eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a church or charityof your choice in Mr. Britt’s name.

Gay S. Smith

Services for Gay S. Smith, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Saturday,Sept. 20, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel with burial inMacedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Smith, 64, died Sept. 18, 2008, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter in Brookhaven. She was born on March 17, 1944 to JeffieOscar Smith and Bessie Case Smith.

She was a graduate of Loyd Star High School and attendedCopiah-Lincoln Junior College. She practiced cosmetology and was ahomemaker. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her father; a brother, Reggie KentSmith; and a sister, Will Ann Fugler and her husband, Robert.

Survivors are her husband of 47 years, Donald F. Smith; hermother; a son, Jeff Smith and wife, Rose; a daughter, Deanna Smithand husband, Mitchell; her sisters-in-law, Donis Case and husband,Lamar and Charlotte Smith; a mother-in-law, Winnie Smith; her fivegrandchildren, Brooks Smith and wife, Kyndal, Jeremy DeDeaux andwife, Bridget, Jeffie-Blake Smith, Lindy Smith and Lauren Smith;her four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Claire Boman, BrooklynElizabeth Smith, Stoney DeDeaux and Lansley DeDeaux; and a host ofnephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
