The Lawrence County Cougars entertain the McComb Tigers Fridaynight in a big Region 6-4A test for both teams. The game kicks offat 7:30 p.m.

In other area games, Franklin County hosts Tylertown, North Pikeentertains Amite County, Jefferson County invades South Pike,Raymond travels to Hazlehurst and Collins is at CrystalSprings.

Lawrence County (3-1), coached by Mike Davis, has won its lastthree games after falling to Petal in the season opener. TheMonticello-based Cougars routed Region 6-4A opponent Florence 62-21last week and host winless McComb in another region test.

McComb (0-4, 0-1) was handed a tough 31-28 region loss at thehands of the Brookhaven Panthers last Friday.

Lawrence County’s Kendrick Hardy led his team to the win overFlorence with 8 carries for 237 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.Hardy blocked a punt and recovered it for a TD. Matthew Wellsfollowed with 7 rushes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Wells caught a32-yard pass from quarterback Adam Watson for another TD.

The Cougar defense was directed by DAILY LEADER Defensive Playerof the Week Marcus Brown. Brown made 16 tackles, including 1 stopfor a sack, 2 stops for a loss and one forced fumble.

In last year’s game, Lawrence County clipped McComb 14-0.

Unbeaten Franklin County (4-0) handed Natchez a 21-19 loss lastweek. The Meadville-based Bulldogs, under first-year head coachTrent Hammond, entertain the Tylertown Chiefs.

Tylertown (2-1, 1-0) squashed North Pike 34-0 last week.

In the victory over Natchez, Franklin County quarterback JamieCollins led the way with 18 carries for 98 yards. He scoredtouchdowns on runs of 2, 18 and 12-yards.

The Bulldog defense was sparked by Collins with 8 tackles and 4pass deflections.

In last year’ matchup, Tylertown nipped Franklin County14-13.

The North Pike Jaguars, under coach Chris Smith, are 1-3 on theseason and 0-1 in Region 7-3A play. The Jags are in Summit to hostAmite County.

Last week, Jefferson County knocked off Amite County 20-12 in aregion matchup.

In the loss to Tylertown, North Pike had 7 turnovers in thefirst half and were held to 88 yards on offense.

Last season, North Pike clipped Amite County 17-14

South Pike (2-0, 1-0) stomped Wilkinson County 31-0 in its firstRegion 7-3A game. The Magnolia-based Eagles, coached by RandallHuffman, are led by Tevin Martin with a pair of touchdowns.

Jefferson County (3-1) clipped Amite County 20-12 lastFriday.

In last year’s contest, South Pike beat Jefferson County18-14

Hazlehurst (1-2) got its first victory of the season last weekwith a 40-8 win over Warren Central. Coach Todd McDaniel’s Indiansentertain Raymond for their first Region 7-3A test of theseason.

Powering Hazlehurst with 20 carries for 159 yards was RonaldFair. Fred Fuller followed with 73 yards and scored a 14 and 1-yardtouchdowns.

Raymond (2-2, 0-1) was defeated 6-0 by Crystal Springs lastFriday.

Last year, Hazlehurst defeated Raymond 28-22.

Crystal Springs (3-1, 1-0), coached by David Virgil, entertainsRegion 6-3A opponent Collins (1-3, 1-0) this week. Collins put awayBailey 38-18 last week for its first win of the season.

In last season’s game, Crystal Springs was a 19-6 loser toCollins.
