Win escapes Enterprise

MADISON – The Enterprise Yellow Jackets had a chance to win inthe final minute of play but could not get a key first down beforefalling to the Madison St. Joseph Bruins 20-19 in a key Region 6-2Aclash Friday night.

With 1:22 left to play, the Jackets recovered an onside kickoffbut they couldn’t get a first down and turned it back over to theBruins who ran out the clock.

Enterprise (1-5, 0-2) hosts Loyd Star Friday night in anotherdivision matchup. The game begins at 7 p.m.

The Jackets, under first-year head coach Wayne Rogers, went up13-0 over the Bruins in the first quarter. Deon Pendleton rushedfor a 9 and 3-yard touchdown. Lance Spring kicked 1 of 2 extrapoints.

Second-quarter action saw St. Joe bounce back with 13 points totie the game at halftime. Quarterback Luke Younger hit E.J. Martinon an 11-yard pass-play and Matt Siegler on an 18-yard strike.Chris Beyer kicked 1 of 2 PATs. Jarrett Todd of Enterprise blockedthe second PAT kick.

Following a scoreless third quarter, St. Joe took a 20-13 leadat the 11:51 mark on a 25-yard pass-play from Stephen Cofer toChase Blossman.

Enterprise punched in its final TD on a 5-yard burst byquarterback Cody Brister. The 2-point conversion run failed and theJackets trailed the Bruins 20-19 with 1:22 left to play.

Leading the Jackets with 18 carries for 77 yards was Brister.Pendleton had 14 carries for 64 yards. Thomas Allen collected 22yards on 5 carries.

Brister completed 3 of 4 passes for 28 yards. Ryan Kennedy ledthe receivers with 1 catch for 18 yards.

Defensively, Travis Leggett directed Enterprise with 12 tackles.Jarrett Todd collected 10 tackles, including 2 for losses and ablocked PAT kick. Allen intercepted a pass and returned it 23yards.
