Wesson (6-1, 3-1) rallied to beat Madison St. Joseph 33-14 lastFriday. Hinds AHS (5-2, 3-1) suffered a 19-10 loss at the hands ofSt. Andrew’s.

“Hinds is very athletic,” said Wesson head coach Tommy Clopton.”They play very hard. They don’t make lot of mistakes. They line upand play hard- nosed football. They are more run oriented thisyear.

“We had a good week of practice,” added Clopton. “We have to goout and play four quarters.”

In the win over St. Joe, Wesson junior running back Jeromy Smithpowered the running game with 25 carries for 122 yards and scored 3touchdowns. Matt P. Smith rushed 13 times for 93 yards and scored aTD.

Defensively, Brandon Bland and Peyton Cupit led Wesson with 4tackles apiece.

Last year, Wesson nipped Hinds AHS 28-17.

Lawrence County (6-1, 4-0) pounded Mendenhall 55-12 last week inRegion 6-4A action and prepares to entertain Jefferson County (3-4,1-3). Mike Davis coaches the Monticello-based Cougars.

Last Friday, Tylertown shut out Jefferson County 35-0.

In the victory over Mendenhall, Kendrick Hardy, Matthew Wellsand Josh Cameron combined for 537 yards and 7 touchdowns on 39rushes for Lawrence County. Hardy rushed 18 times for 199 yards,Cameron ran 12 times for 238 yards followed by Wells with 120 yardson 9 carries.

On defense, Carlton Parkman led Lawrence County with 8tackles.

In last year’s matchup, Lawrence County thrashed JeffersonCounty 66-26.

Franklin County (5-1, 4-0) battles South Pike (4-0, 3-0) forfirst place in the Region 7-3A. The Meadville-based Bulldogs, underfirst-year head coach Trent Hammond, crushed North Pike 42-0 in adivision test last week.

South Pike, under Randall Huffman, had an open date lastweek.

In the win over North Pike, senior quarterback Jamie Collinsrushed for 147 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown. Collinsconnected with Taylor Washington for a 13-yard TD.

On defense, Jacques Rogers, Brad Covington and LaDarrious Huntcollected 6 tackles apiece for Franklin County

Last season, Franklin County dumped South Pike 42-8.

McComb (2-5, 1-2) squashed Port Gibson 52-8 last Friday. TheTigers, coached by Randy Martin, entertain Mendenhall for a Region6-4A test.

Mendenhall (2-5, 1-3) was whipped by Lawrence County 55-12 lastweek.

In the win over Port Gibson, McComb’s Marion Smith led the waywith 175 yards and scored 3 touchdowns.

In last year’s battle, McComb dumped Mendenhall 19-6.

North Pike (2-5, 1-2) travels to Woodville to face winlessWilkinson County (0-6, 0-3). Wilkinson County fell to Amite County32-6 last week.

Last season, North Pike thumped Wilkinson County 32-18

Hazlehurst (4-2, 3-0) handed Magee a 50-0 whipping last Friday.The Indians, under first-year head coach Tod McDaniel, face Raymond(2-5, 0-3) in a Region 6-3A test.

In the victory over Magee, Fred Fuller directed Hazlehurst with181 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.

In last year’s contest, Hazlehurst defeated Raymond 27-14

Crystal Springs (4-3, 2-2) faces winless Bailey in a Region 6-3Amatchup. The Tigers are coached by David Virgil.

Bailey (0-7, 0-3) is coming off a lopsided 47-0 whipping at thehands of Florence.

Last year, Crystal Springs crushed Richland 28-7.
