1st grader killed in accident

MONTICELLO – A one-vehicle accident on Bismark Road in southwestLawrence County claimed the life of a Topeka-Tilton AttendanceCenter first-grader Friday afternoon, county officials said.

Lawrence County Coroner Sidney Fortenberry said Hayden DavidBoyd, 7, was killed when the vehicle driven by his father, JohnBoyd, left Bismark Road and struck a tree. A spokesperson for theLawrence County Sheriff’s Department said the road had been wetthroughout the day and it is believed Boyd’s car hit a slick spot,which caused him to lose control.

John Boyd and his daughter Kyanna Marie Boyd were both taken toSouthwest Medical Center by ambulance. Both were treated andreleased.

Fortenberry said the accident occurred after John Boyd hadpicked his children up at school.

Hayden Boyd is the son of John and Sara Boyd of Jayess.

Visitation is Sunday from 2 p.m. until the service begins at 11a.m. Monday at Calvary United Pentecostal Church with burial inCalvary Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is handling thearrangements.
