Although most of the buzz surrounding the Nov. 4 generalelection deals with the congressional and presidential races, ahandful of the local candidates running for positions on the countyelection commission and school board are making sure their contestsdon’t go unnoticed.

Lincoln County residents will have the opportunity to meet andgreet their local candidates Saturday at a rally at the BogueChitto/Lincoln County Community Center on Highway 51 in BogueChitto. The event begins at 11 a.m.

Lincoln County School Board Educational District Threecandidates Edward Dillon and Ricky Welch – who are competing tofill the vacancy left by longtime board member Joann Holmes’retirement – are scheduled to speak at the event, as is LincolnCounty Election Commission District Three candidate Gloria Brown,who is challenging incumbent commissioner Bennon Case. Other localcandidates are welcome at the event.

Each speaker will have up to 20 minutes to talk, answerquestions from the audience and explain their desire to run for thepositions.

Saturday’s event will be similar to the rally held at the centerlast year, though on a smaller scale, as there are only a few localelections. In addition to the District Three election commissionerand school board races, there are contests for District Fourelection commissioner and District Four county school boardrepresentative.

Center president Charles Edwards said the candidates expressedinterest in holding the rally, and since he views it as a communityservice, he immediately agreed to hosting it.

“Everyone is focused on the national elections, and there aresome people who don’t know who’s running in the local elections,”he said. “The rally will be for people to get to know thecandidates and what position they’re running for.”

Edwards said the Bogue Chitto/Lincoln County Community Center isnot endorsing any of the candidates – just providing the stage. Heexpects approximately 100 people to attend the event.
