Services for Mae Robinson Brown, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Nov. 1, at Alexander Junior High School Auditorium withburial in Carver Heights Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from noon until 7 p.m. with family presentfrom 6 until 7 p.m. at Tyler Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown, 73, died Oct. 27, 2008, at Haven Hall Health CareCenter in Brookhaven. She was born in Brookhaven on Sept. 18, 1935,to Eddie Banks and Clara Scott Robinson.
She was valedictorian of the Alexander High School Class of1953. She was also a graduate of Southern University in BatonRouge, La., where she graduated magna cum laude in 1957. Shereceived her master’s degree from the University of SouthernMississippi. She was former band director at Alexander High Schooland a former school counselor. She was also employed in 1981 atCopiah-Lincoln Community College and served as a counselor atBrookhaven Elementary School. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E.Church, where she served as an organist and a pianist until herhealth failed.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her uncle and aunt, Ed and Daisy Robinson, who were her adoptive parents; her brothers,Robert “Trixie” Johnson, Sam Banks and Andrew Washington; and a sister, Bertha Gaines.
Survivors are her a son, Lamonte Brown, of Jackson; a daughter,Dr. Ouida L. Brown, of Philadelphia, Pa.; her brothers, Fred Banks,of Wesson, Charles Clarke, of Hattiesburg, Versie Clarke, EmileBanks, both of Chicago, Ill., and Willie Lee Banks, of Wilmington,Del.; and her sisters, Monzola Banks, of Brookhaven, Estella Richardson and Velma Ford, both of Chicago.
