Rock-A-Chaws invade Brook

Record-setting quarterback Dylan Favre and the St. StanislausRock-A-Chaws invade Brookhaven Friday night for the opening roundof the Class 4A state football playoffs. Kickoff is 7 p.m. on KingField.
Favre (6-0, 185), a junior, has passed for 43 touchdowns thisseason, eclipsing the old state record of 42 held by Clifton DavisIII of North Panola since 1990. The nephew of NFL superstarquarterback Brett Favre has surpassed the 3,000-yard plateau inpassing, directing his team to a 8-2 record and the No. 3 seed outof Region 8-4A.
Ole Brook head coach Tucker Peavey said the Rocks depend on thepass and throw it about 80 percent of the time. “They look good onfilm. Favre does a good job of distributing the ball around. He canrun, too.”
Pass protection for the athletic Favre has been a key to St.Stan’s success. Peavey said, “They have some big guys who do a goodjob pass blocking.”
St. Stan’s top receivers are Krisjohn Wilkerson and BoomerScarborough, both juniors, each have over 900 receiving yards.James Abraham, a senior, has over 800 yards receiving. “They don’thave great speed but they are in the right place at the righttime,” said Peavey.
Asked about St. Stan’s defense, Peavey said, “They are big ondefense, too. They play base and blitz you every down. Their kicker(Cameron Bosley) puts half of his kickoffs in the end zone. He hasa strong leg.”
Under the direction of first-year head coach Forrest Williams,the Rocks are averaging 39 points per game. Opponents averaged 28ppg.
In their 2 region losses, St. Stan lost 68-34 to No. 1 seedD’Iberville and 56-28 to No. 2 seed Picayune.
Peavey said his Panthers must adjust to the Rocks’ blitzingdefense. “Defensively, they are going to make some plays. We can’tget frustrated. We just have to make the plays.”
Panthers No. 2
The Panthers finished 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the Region 6-4Arace, 1 game behind Lawrence County which hosts Bay High of Bay St.Louis Friday night. No. 3 Forest Hill is at Picayune and No. 4Mendenhall is at D’Iberville.
BHS concluded its season last Friday night with a 28-14 road winover the Florence Eagles, Players of the Week against Florence wereCordai Henderson and Jacoby Cooper on defense, Semmie Smith onoffense and Laterrius Williams on special teams.
Smith rushed for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win overFlorence. He has gained 729 yards and scored 14 touchdowns in 7games.
Senior quarterback Bud Britt has passed for 980 yards and 3touchdowns this season. He’s rushed for 152 yards and 2 TDs.
Working in Brook’s offensive line are Derrick Henderson andMartin Jones at tackle, Mitch Case at center, Tameas Hooker andJonathan Buie at guard and Nick Peavey at tight end.
On defense against Florence, end Cordai Henderson had 4 tacklesand 3 assists, including a sack, a caused fumble and a fumblerecovery. Jacoby Cooper had 6 tackles and 5 assists, including 2tackles for a loss.
Issac Jones had nine solo tackles, followed by Renaldo Epps with6 tackles, 2 assists and an interception.
Chris Seals and Jeffery Newton also intercepted passes.
BHS defensive coordinator Kelby Bowman said his unit must playan outstanding game against St. Stanislaus. Starting on defense,Williams and Jewaun Merchant and Malcolm Stewart at tackle andHenderson amd Joseph Owen at end.
At linebacker are Chavon Middleton, Jacoby Cooper and RenaldoEpps. In the secondary, Isaiah Williams and Jeffery Newton are atcornerback and Chris Seals is at free safety.
Panther Paws: BHS was seeded No. 1 last season when the Panthershosted No. 4 West Jones in the opening round of the state playoffs.The Panthers lost 30-7 and finished 8-2.
