MOORHEAD — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves overcame a poor shootingperformance Monday night and defeated the Mississippi DeltaCommunity College Trojans 59-52 in non-division action. Theirvictory was directed by sophomores Shrika Ward with 14 points andYashunda Williams with 10 points plus 11 rebounds.

In the men’s game, Delta beat the Wolves 56-52, directed byFalando Jones who scored 11 points for the Trojans.

Co-Lin continues its road tour Thursday at Coahoma CommunityCollege in Clarksdale. The women’s game tips off the twinbill at 6p.m.

The Lady Wolves (2-0) overcame a cold 32 percent field goalshooting to beat the MDCC women. They shot a colder 25 percent thefirst half.

“It was a good win on the road, especially with us shooting 32percent,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “Our free throwshooting was good,” making 19 of 24.

Co-Lin trailed by as much as 20 points in the first half beforepicking up the pace on defense. Young said his team’s second-half,full-court pressure was decisive.

Sophomore guard Rhonds Dumas collected 5 steals and 3 assistsfor Co-Lin.

Delta got 22 points from guard Jessica Ayers. Brittany Lakesadded 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Wolves (1-1) absorbed their first setback after leadingDelta 29-20 at halftime. The Trojans forged 15-point, second-halflead before Co-Lin rallied.

A driving layup by Arkeino Harris gave the Wolves a 1-point leadwith 6:30 left to play.

“We didn’t take advantage,” said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims.”We missed free throws as well as not executing on both ends of thefloor.

“We are young and inexperienced but we need to grow up quicklyif we are going to accomplish positive things this year,” Simsadded.

Sophomore guard Trent Hutchin led Co-Lin’s offensive with 19points. Sophomore forward Lewanski Newsome and guard Rob Wallacescored 12 points apiece. Newsome also grabbed a team-best 5rebounds.

Co-Lin was outrebounded 26-19 and shot 43 percent from thefield.
