George Rabb Ferrell

Services for George Rabb Ferrell, of Brookhaven, are 1 p.m.Saturday, Nov. 15, at New Prospect Baptist Church with burial inthe church cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven FuneralHome on Natchez Drive.

Mr. Ferrell, 88, died Nov. 13, 2008, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born on May 29, 1920, to Albert Ernest Ferrell Sr.and Jessie Rabb Ferrell.

Mr. Ferrell was born and raised in Monterey and was one of fiveboys and two girls. He served in the U.S. Army during World War IIand married his wife of 66 years, Pearl, on Feb. 6, 1944, in Rome,Ga. After the war, they moved to Brookhaven, where he worked in theoil industry at Brookhaven Field for 40 years, retiring fromChevron at 62.

After retirement, he and his wife served as volunteer staff atCentral Hill Baptist Retreat in Kosciusko for 14 years and didvolunteer mission trips through the Southern Baptist Convention formany years. He will be remembered for his faith and service to God,his love of family and his particular “gift of gab” entrancing allwho listened with stories of growing up in the rural back woods ofLouisiana and pioneering the oil fields of Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his four brothers; andhis two sisters.

Survivors are his wife, Pearl Ferrell, of Brookhaven; hischildren, Larry Ferrell and wife, Mildred, of Magee, GlendaRobinson and husband, Danny, of Brookhaven, Lonnie Ferrell andwife, Judy, of Brookhaven, Keith Ferrell and wife, Sherry, ofHammond, La.; his 13 grandchildren; and numerousgreat-grandchildren.

Lester C. Holt Jr.

A memorial service for Lester C. Holt Jr., of Ruth, is noonSaturday, Nov. 15, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel.

Visitation is Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeralhome.

Mr. Holt, 57, died Nov. 11, 2008, at his residence. He was bornin Attala County on Jan. 23, 1951, to Lester C. Holt Sr. and SybilCook Holt.

He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg onJan. 3, 2008, after 31 years of service. He was a member of NewHope Baptist Church in Monticello. He was an avid sportsman and amember of the Panola Hunting Club.

Preceding him in death were his mother; and hisgrandparents.

Survivors are his father, Lester C. Holt Sr. and his stepmother,Polly O’Keefe Holt, of Ridgeland; a son, Christopher Aaron Holt, ofVicksburg; a daughter, Brandi Renee Chalk and husband, Brad, ofByram; a sister, Sherri H. Kyzar and husband, Glenn, of Ruth; hisnephews, Justin H. Kyzar, of Ruth, and Jason G. Kyzar and wife,Jessica; and a great-niece, Kaitlyn, of Brookhaven; and his belovedcanines, Rob, Rowdy and Roxie.

Billie F. Polk

Mrs. Polk, 78, died Nov. 12, 2008, at Lakeland Nursing andRehabilitation Center in Jackson. She was born on Nov. 18, 1929, toJohn Edward Williamson and Amcie Lambert Williamson.

She retired from retail administration with McCarty-HolmnCompany. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, KennethPolk; her brothers, John B., Buford and B.T. Williamson; and herfour sisters, Grace Hathorn, Lottie Herman, Bernice Lambert andMarie Jameson.

Survivors are a son, Robert Gregory Polk and wife, Carol; asister, Bertie Fortenberry, of Barlow; and her three grandsons,Andrew, Philip and John-David Polk.

Edward Earl Rutland

Mr. Rutland, 67, died Nov. 13, 2008, at Lawrence County NursingCenter in Monticello. He was born on Oct. 9, 1941 to James L.Rutland and Augusta Smith Rutland.

He was a retired pipe liner. He was of the Baptist faith andBethel Baptist Church member.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, PaulRutland; and a niece, Rhonda Rutland.

Survivors are his wife, Johnnie Mae Neal Rutland; his daughters,Connie Rutland Ballard, of Monticello, and Melinda Gail Rutland, ofMonticello; a brother, Willie Carrol Rutland, of Monticello; agrandson, Devin Wayne Mullins, of Monticello; and a granddaughter,Nicole Ballard.

Paul Smith

Services for Paul Smith, of Monticello, are 11 a.m. Friday, Nov.14, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Monticello with burial inBethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello.

Mr. Smith, 76, died Nov. 12, 2008, at Lawrence County Hospital.He was born in Lawrence County on Feb. 29, 1932, to Sidney Smithand Agnes Pevey Smith.

He retired with the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Hewas a member of Ruth Baptist Church in Ruth.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his threebrothers.

Survivors are his wife, Cecile Kyzar Smith; and his sons, JustinMullins, of Monticello, and Jeremy Mullins, of Pontotoc.

Charles Franklin Twiner

Services for Charles Franklin Twiner, of Hazlehurst, were 11a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at New Providence Baptist Church inHazlehurst with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Twiner, 73, died Nov. 11, 2008, at Pine Crest Guest Home. Hewas born in Allen on Nov. 9, 1935, to Joe Hardy Twiner and Ivy NoraTwiner.

He retired from Wal-Mart’s sporting goods department and wasalso a Wal-Mart greeter. He retired after spending 21 years in theU.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of New Providence BaptistChurch, where he served as a deacon and also as head deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a son, ChristopherDean Twiner.

Survivors are his wife, Ann Doyle Twiner, of Hazlehurst; hissons, Darrel Twiner and Scott Twiner; a brother, Jacob Twiner; hissisters, Ivy Jo Moore and Virgie Ray O’dom; and threegrandchildren.

Bobbie Wallace

Services for Bobbie Wallace, of Brookhaven, are 2:30 p.m.Saturday, Nov. 15, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapel withburial in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Bogue Chitto.

Mrs. Wallace, 77, died Nov. 12, 2008, at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center in Jackson. She was born on Oct. 22, 1931, to EdgarCase and Nellie Mae Smith.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church inBrookhaven.

Preceding her in death were her father, Edgar Case; her mother,Nellie Mae Smith; her stepfather, Allen E. Smith Sr.; and abrother, Robert Earl Case.

Survivors are her husband, Lewis Wallace; a son, Greg Wallace,of Dallas, Texas; and a daughter, Jeanne Wallace, of Baton Rouge,La.

The family would like to extend a thank you to two very specialcaregivers, Lethea Nevels and Stacey Banes for the love, supportand encouragement over the last few years. Also, thank you to thestaff at Moak-Massengill Clinic in Brookhaven and to Dr. JimmyMoore and staff on the fifth floor of Mississippi Baptist MedicalCenter in Jackson.
