BA Cougars in win over East Rankin

PELAHATCHIE – Jake Reed’s 15 points led three players in doublefigures Saturday as the Brookhaven Academy Cougars crushed EastRankin Academy’s Patriots 53-40. Sidney Chaffin chipped in 14points and Blaine Roberts 13 as the Cougars hiked their record to3-1 on the season.

In the varsity girls game, East Rankin smashed the Lady Cougars58-31, paced by Brooke Rhodes with 23 points.

Brookhaven Academy resumes play Monday night at Amite SchoolCenter in Liberty. Four games are on tap, starting at 4 p.m.

The Cougars (3-1) got 8 rebounds from Chaffin. Josh Winborne andJamison Powell each had 6 boards. Roberts and Sam Furr each had5.

Powell chipped in 4 assists and 3 steals for Coach Dale Watts.Winborne and Reed had 3 assists as the Cougars cruised to a 36-14lead after 3 quarters

The Patriots shot the lights out in the final 8 minutes and madethe score respectable. Matthew Toal scored 12 points for thehosts.

The Lady Cougars (3-3) got 15 points and 10 rebounds fromsophomore center Anna Katelyn Mangold. Coach Barry Gray watches histeam commit 14 turnovers and make just 25 percent of their fieldgoal attempts.

East Rankin (8-1), a Class AAA team, got 12 points from AnnRobinson as they raced to 26-17 halftime lead.
