Silver Creek man charged in armed robbery

A Silver Creek man is facing multiple charges after leadingBrookhaven and Lincoln County law enforcement on a chase Tuesdaymorning following an attempted armed robbery.
Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said Matthew BlakeDunaway, 25, of 520 Hooker Road, Silver Creek, has been chargedwith attempted armed robbery on the S & P Quick Mart at 413Main St. In addition, he also faces charges of failure to yield tolaw enforcement, felony fleeing, switched tag, suspended license,no proof of insurance and DUI refusal.
Henderson said Dunaway wielded a knife during the attemptedrobbery. Officials said he allegedly put the knife to the cashier’sthroat and demanded money.
After he made his escape on a motorcycle, police followed himfor a few blocks to make certain he was the suspect. A chase ensuedand ended up in the county.
“He gave us a good run for several miles, but our officers andthe sheriff’s department’s officers did an outstanding job workingtogether and apprehending him without much incident,” Hendersonsaid.
He said Dunaway, who was intoxicated, was carrying a Kentucky IDcard when he was apprehended, and had switched tags on hismotorcycle, which was not reported stolen. Officials do not yetknow if Dunaway is originally from Silver Creek or if he hasrelocated to the area.
“At this point we haven’t been able to find a criminal record onhim, but we’re still checking other states,” Henderson said.”That’s based on things he’s said as we’ve talked to him.”
Dunaway is currently being held in the Lincoln County Jail.
