‘Tis the season to be thinking of all the family’s children, even the four-legged variety, Brookhaven Animal Rescue Leaguevolunteers say.
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be a time for families andtheir pets to come to the Woodmen of the World building onIndustrial Park Road and knock out two birds with one stone, saidBARL’s Rusty Adcock. In addition to the yearly “Pet Photos WithSanta,” Brookhaven Animal Hospital’s Mike Gowan will be on hand togive $5 rabies shots.
“These are important for obvious reasons,” Adcock said. “Younever know when wild animals could get to your pets.”
It’s also state law that pets over 3 months old must have acurrent rabies vaccination, Adcock said.
Adcock said half of the rabies vaccinations proceeds will go toBARL, and the rest will pay the expenses of the shots. A goodturnout is expected, especially with hunting season under way.
“I think we’ll have a large volume come out for that, peoplebringing in hunting dogs,” Adcock said.
The photos will be available in three different packagesstarting at $10. All proceeds from the photos go to BARL to helpthem with rescue efforts.
“We see all kinds of people each year,” Adcock said. “Seniorswill have their little pets out, all the way up to a whole familywho gets their picture with the kids and the pets too. If everyonewants to get in the picture with Santa and the pet, that’sfine.”
Adcock said Santa usually only sees dogs and cats, but that’sbecause that’s the majority of his visitors each year.
“Santa’s up to whatever kind of pets turn out,” he said, laughing.
Photo packages can be ordered on site, and information on pickupwill be available at the sitting.
