Mishap claims McCall man

A McCall Creek man was killed Monday morning when the pickuptruck he was driving was involved in an accident with two othervehicles in Pike County, officials said.

Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman said Steven Patrick Cupit, 29,of 75 Shucktown Road, McCall Creek, was pronounced dead on thescene Monday morning after the collision occurred at theintersection of Park Drive Extension and Highway 24.

Pittman said Cupit was driving a large pickup truck pulling atrailer with a trackhoe on it.

“Somehow he and an 18-wheeler and another vehicle ended up in anaccident,” Pittman said. “It was such an entangled mess that it washard to tell what happened.”

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M Public Affairs Officer Sgt.Rusty Boyd said reconstructionists were still on the scene of theaccident around 10 a.m. Monday, and that the highway patrol wasworking on accident reports at that time.

Pittman said the truck driver was also injured, but that hisname was not yet available.

Cupit will be sent for autopsy, Pittman said, but hisarrangements will be handled by Franklin Funeral Home. Arrangementsare incomplete.
